They are all in AQ conferences with a slate of games people and the media care about. TCU is a better standard with which to compare and it is going to be very interesting to see if their attendance stays up while they bottom feed in the Big 12. Personally I think our only chance is to win the AAC and go from there. Attendance is not going to get better, but wining will give the program as much of a lift as it can get. We just need to start tempering our expectations. JJ has not yet brought us to where we thought he would, but whether he stays or goes, there are many positives. Should you care to look for them of course.

You dont? This is blackmail, pure and simple. June is saying he wants more money, or he'll drag the schools name through the mud. And this first salvo is just a taste, he's letting the check writers see that he has the connections and the profile to raise a real stink. Its just posturing to get a couple more guaranteed years of contributions to his retirement nest egg. He knows this is the last stop, no school is going to give him the kind of money SMU has forked over, and no school he would want to work at would ever consider hiring him. He thinks he has SMU by the short hairs, and he's going to twist a bit to get what he wants.
It is unfortunate that June said those things.

Look at Rice this year. How in the world are they winning with all the restrictions they have? IF JJs excuses were real, Rice shouldn't win any games. Look at Bowling Green, Northern Iowa, and Fresno State. They have put together competitive teams in non-AQ conferences. Look at UCF. JJs excuses are just that, excuses.

Jon, I had considered this conversation as mere hearsay until I read that. Are you at liberty to expound? Pretty serious allegation you're making.

Not really blackmail he already did it.

No, I'm not, and yes I suppose it is. Go ahead and consider it hearsay, or me speaking metaphorically, or speculatively. It isnt anything that would stand up in court and perhaps I made it sound like it comes direct from June when its actually more from third parties, particularly his agent. If the moderator wants to take it down I wont squawk, but I'm not going to change it myself.

UCF is BCS caliber. Lost to the gamecocks by 3.

would not be surprised if they get added to Big 12

I don't want to hear about admission standards, IPF or any such nonsense. Duke is doing it. Baylor did it. Stanford is certainly doing it. All private schools putting their backs into it. No excuses for SMU to not get this done. Get a damn coach who will recruit, invest in the program and let's do this thing. Otherwise [deleted] off. Duke, Stanford, Baylor et al have proven all that is just bs.
Ojai is correct again on this one. Check this out:

Franklin has already made some serious waves on the recruiting trail. He’s bringing in four-star prospects, which was once a fantasy at Vanderbilt.

The other thing he’s done is embrace Vanderbilt’s stringent academic standards. He’s selling them rather than trying to work around them.

I do not like him as our coach because he has not won enough, which is the bottom line. To me the cause of this is that he is a poor recruiter and does not know how to organize a staff to recruit. I think that focusing on laziness, etc makes it too personal and distracts from the bottom line that he just has not won enough, plus that stuff is much more qualitative and difficult to prove so it allows people to make counter arguments. All the numbers people were tossing out in response to gosslein were the best arguments in my opinion.

Grant,

JJ has been called a lot of things on this board. Stupid is not one of them.

June knows d*mn well how to organize a staff to recruit. He doesn't because of ego and/or laziness, probably a combination of both. Some posters such as myself call him out on this.

Sorry, if that ruffles feathers, but it is what it is.

What's the worst thing he can say? that SMU is a $hitty little school? Oh, I forgot, that line has already been used.

Seriously, what can he possibly do?

I say bring it. If JJ attempts to trash SMU, we can respond with the facts...that SMU has spent some $150M recently on athletics and are unsatisfied with the return on their investment on this particular revenue sport, therefore the change. Plus all SMU supporters will close rank against him. Quite possibly some CoC members may open their wallets a bit more to prove him wrong.
