No, no, no. He lost a bunch of highly ranked QB recruits who signed with UT and then drifted off elsewhere after a season or two in Austin. One of them was a highly regarded HS QB out of Arizona, another was Matt Nordgren.
Matt Nordren was at Texas for 4 years...he just got beat out by some guy named Vince Young. He was the backup and placeholder his senior year

Honestly, the mess was created by the billionaire donors, aggy board of trustees that Rick Perry promoted, and LHN. Was 10 years of dominance (10 win seasons) not good enough?
That is true, if Mack had continued the dominance we wouldn't be having this discussion. When you are in top the only direction is down, and when you are on bottom the only way is up. Good news for us.

UT finished ranked in the top 20 in 2012 and was 7-2 in the big 12 in 2013, with the worst loss being the BYU upset. If that is horribly down sign me up

Considering where Mack had them before that is "horribly down". I mean they lost 5 games last year by 19+ points, why should they have given him another year?

Tell me again how the donors, Rick Perry and the LHN sabotaged recruiting and bad coaching? I didn't see any of the board of trustees lined up against BYU's O line last year or this one either.

He will have none of that at SMU. While I will agree that he will have good relationships with the HS coaches, players aren't going to SMU because Mack Brown was there. In 18 year old terms, by the time the new coach is in place in January, and we are going after 16-17 kids, these kids were 10 years old when Texas was relevant.
And as far as recruiting is concerned. Mack stopped recruiting in 2006 and anyone close to the program knows that. It all became the assistants. Mack didn't go out in the spring, barely showed his face at camps, and tried to force recruits to commit in his office in july or he would retract their offer. Obviously the kids went to other schools... So there's that for recruiting.
and as far as records are concerned, he was good in his prime, the last three years of conference, he went 2-6, 4-5 and 5-6.

That's down for TEXAS. We're SMU. I see no reason why we should replace a guy who let Mustang football slide for a guy who let UT football slide.
To SC person; stop with the arrogance and comparisons with UT football. SMU is NOT UT. The early eighties are over bud. Accept it. Completely different dynamics. At the end Mac lost control of the UT program for whatever reason. It happens frequently in this sport. It was time for him to move on but no one but an idiot fails to recognize the guys accomplishments in Austin. Mac was very successful at UT. Anyone who says otherwise needs to put the crack pipe down. Just because the program slid his last years at UT means little in the large scheme.
An apt analogy might be OU in the late eighties. OU was heading for a big slide under Switzer if he stayed into the early 90's. Barry would have eventually been fired but I sure would have loved for a guy like to come to SMU. According to SC persons logic a program like SMU would not be interested in a Barry Switzer.
The question really is whether or not Mac is even remotely interested in the SMU job. I hope so.
