Not that I remember.

Believe me, I wish I could say yes.

I seem to remember the drums would simply beat wildly until the snap of the ball. But that may have been 1989 memories.

SMU doesn't even play while we have the ball anymore.
I am pretty sure the band has not played anything while the opponents have the ball ever since they started putting rules to that effect in the book.

Well that's weird since every other college game I have seen in TV or live, the bands usually have a 3rd down tune that they always use. Thought it would be cool for our band to do that....maybe a slowmo version of the first verse of Peruna with a drum roll until right before the snap lol

For opponents third down by the way. For SMU possessions, Peruna on first down is cool but with #PonyUpTempo I can see that being a problem lol

Haha, it was during the Baylor game. They had to rush to get one rendition of Peruna completed. During the June years they could leisurely get two done...although last year we didn't hear much of anything.

Please Point me toward such a rule. The only rule I've ever found is 1-1-6 which states you cannot make noises to disrupt hearing signals. Subjective, but does not ban playing. I suspect SMU game programming is a bigger limiter than anything.

C-USA had a rule a band could not play anything but drums while the opponent was on offense. At least that is what I was told - by The Mustang Band director on this very board when I complained about us not playing.
I do not know if The American has any rules and I don't know how interconference games are managed.
From what Rick Hard said on twitter, Baylor was allowed to play while we have the ball so obviously there is no such rule in place currently, so there is no reason we shouldn't be playing while the opponent has the ball.

I like the idea of a third down song from the band. They are creative people and could come up with something distinctive.

If a Band played a third down song and nobody heard it-does it exists?

If there is no rule why did our band get penalized for doing just that during the PE era?

In the same twitter exchange I thought it sounded like Hart acknowledged the rule and then acknowledged Baylor broke the rule.
