Oh please - now you are acting like a government accountant.
Point is this is different that you have been saying. The top P-5 programs were paying well above that at that time,(not what you are claiming). TCU geared up when they had the money in their packet from the Big 12. They weren't much different than us until then.
He just destroyed your argument - admit defeat. Love your commitment to SMU and your knowledge of recruiting - but you are just wrong on this issue and you wont let go. Its getting tiresome.

Stallion wants our alums to pay the coach a salary in the top 10-15 in the country and is ecstatic with mid tier AAC recruiting. Makes perfect sense!

i just hope they decide to step up and pay what is necessary to get a top level experienced coach instead of thinking that they can cut the pay in half and get a coach (inexperienced and unproven) on the cheap.

Ha! Ha! TCU raised Patterson's contract the year BEFORE the 2009 Access Bowl and SMU may have refused to raise Morris' contract 1 maybe 2 year BEFORE SMU had a shot at the Access Bowl
TCU's gamble reaped huge rewards that was one of the most important factors in reaching P5 level. SMU is refusing to make the same investment TCU did and instead is looking to hire a position coach 3 years out of High School.
That's why TCU is way way up there
And Littl' SMU is way way down here

You do realize Patterson was a head coach with TCU since 2000. It isn't apples to oranges.

Don't bother him with facts. He has his one note and he is going to toot the horn until it is broken. This, despite the fact that paying him more when we extended him would have made no difference. And offering him more to keep him when he was contacted by Arkansas would have made no difference. So the whole thing is just whining.

It may be apples and oranges, but I think the point is still valid. We're not investing like we need to in order to make the inroads necessary to try to get into a P5 conference. If we're not going to go all in, then why die a slow death. This is a binary decision, either go all in or do away with the football program and become a basketball school. The football program is by far and away the most expensive program to maintain, but it is also the one that reaps the most benefits.

Wonder how much Stallion has been increasing his donations to help support SMU athletics?

EXACTLY
Football has become profitable at TCU since the Horned Frogs joined the Big 12 in 2012. The school reported $52 million in football revenues and a profit of $18.5 million in 2015-16, up from revenues of $26 million in 2011, when the school broke even on the sport, according to the U.S. Department of Education.

part of the problem is I have a source that traces salary back to 2006 but not before-- but anyway it shows 8 substantial raises for Gary Patterson in the 10 years between 2006 and 2016--sometimes the amount drops maybe $100,000 the year after a raise but I'm assuming its because of a bonus or maybe a signing bonus in prior years
The point is SMU will never keep a Coach unless it repeated analyzes changes in the market value of its coach and offers modifications when necessary to keep the Coach happy. SMU admittedly has made no effort to keep Morris and never gave him or his staff as raise. If you have a Hot-Shot young Coach you don't wait until the end of the Contract term to modify salary in response to market value

2000-2008: 8 bowls in 9 years (winning 5 of them) and having one 10 win season and four 11 win seasons, 3 conference championships, 4 consecutive wins over B12 teams in '04-05. He EARNED those raises. EARNED with quantifiable results. Morris got us back to a bowl game (Barely albeit) but it's not like that hadn't been done since the DP. we had been to 4 bowls in the 6 years prior to him getting here. he just got us back where we were. so yeah, market rate.
look, you've decided to dig your heels in on this one. Sometimes it's ok to be wrong. you don't even have to admit it, just slowly push the keyboard away, and stop responding. it will be ok. we'll let it go too and forget about it.

Counselor, can you please offer evidence that ΓÇ£SMU has made no effort to keep MorrisΓÇ¥? I do not believe I have seen that written or spoken anywhere.

Morris wasn't staying even if SMU matched the Arky salary. End of story.

...and Gary Patterson took over a strong program from Franchione that had reached the Top 25 yet in 2 out of the next 4 years they finished 6-6 and 5-6 in a G5 Conference. Nevertheless, TCU thought they had the Right Guy and rewarded him. SMU hired the Right Guy-for the first time in 40 years but didn't bother or lift a finger to invest in him. Chad Morris had us tracking to a legitimate shot at an Access Bowl
