The Athletic says that SMU to Birmingham is very likely, as Houston will almost certainly take the Fenway spot. Birmingham vs LSU is their call.

I would assume 6-6 Boston College will "host" the Fenway Bowl and I doubt a one or two loss Houston team would prefer that game to playing a SEC team in Birmingham

FWIW, any SEC team in that game would be 6-6 as well (five SEC teams finished 6-6).
