Look I get you guys want to be on the players side, and blame the faceless and death fans... but the fact of the matter is... these games make me more upset than jumping up and down fist pumping like most of the games did last year. I blame players McDermott because whenever the focus the camera on him... he doesnt show any emotion or just sit on the bench and watch the game. KP or any player thats into it, would be angry, talking with a coach, talking with players and not sit with a smirk. Im have and always been against them since game 1. I dont think hes a player. I just think hes freeloader getting a great education. Players are like Zach who went out and gave it their all and made us all chant his name. Same for Hunt, Davis and even the freshman who showed up at Rice.

2nd long, Myrdel and others, I know you disagree me, maybe im too extreme, but Im just a young fan who wants to see them give it their all. I want to see the same emotion (both years) and drive they play against TCU. Its upsetting seeing zombies at USM, Tulsa, etc. I think Jones needs to either show leadership or get people to show leadership. I will say that the defense as a whole deserves whatever bowl, but the offense doesnt. For our sake, its better to fight against big teams rather than better vacations.

Also I feel bad for basketball, I know that its frustrating with football, but they have the hardest time by far. They need our support especially when it comes to joining the Big East. I hope people will drive to SMU to watch those games, and hopefully that picks up recruiting.

Man I think many of you are way too [deleted] the team. Every player wants to go to a bowl game away from home. Also, I wish you guys would lay off JJ McD. Has the guy done anything to demonstrate that he is not giving 100%? If he is not good enough to perform up to expectations, blame the coaches. They recruited him and they made the decision to play him. I'm sure players and recruits love reading about fans saying the team quit or doesn't deserve a bowl game.

Given the poor attendance at home games this year (i mean actual attendance), how can anyone blame the team for wanting to go elsewhere. Heck if I was a player and read this garbage I'd want to leave too. Enjoy the ride - bowl games are supposed to be fun.

Expectations are up, that's a good thing. If anything these criticisms are too mild. Anyone making decisions based on innocuous message board fodder is probably too dumb to be useful anywhere. As for the attendance, the players can look to the mirror for answers, play better and win games and people will show up.

I understand it, but some of our "players" werent playing. They gave up a long time ago. You can tell by watching it in the stands or on tv. You can look at the sidelines and nobody seems to care, not a whole lot of yelling to get people fired up. Im sorry but if you have equal amount of TDs with Ints and as mobile as statue, I think you deserve worst. Watching him, my heart chases thinking which opponent player gets to boost his resume. When Line carried the ball, Im their praying he breaks through so the kid doesnt have to throw. I wish they didnt recruit them so they would toss KP to the side. I wish the read our frustrations, so they realize why there are so many empty seats. I will give them the UCF game, but after that it was put on them. The way they ended the 2nd half of the season, they dont deserve a voice in the bowl game selection. They get whatever quitters deserve, what the most loyal fans thinks the best. Unfortunately, its what the businesses think.

Reed, normally I would agree with you, but the fact that some of the players quit is not a secret in the locker room. When one of your teammates is not giving his all, the other players know it and should not be shocked that people comment on the topic on message boards. But as I said, JJ did not quit. I really don't think any of the major contributors quit for that matter, but others did. That being said, I understand their desire to go elsewhere and support that notion.

Sbsmith-- The players could have gone 11-1 this year and attendance would not improve significantly. Fans support their teams win or lose. Winning might draw in a few casual fans but you can't blame the players for attendance. After this season, the team will have gone to three bowl games. We are three years removed from back to back 1-11 seasons and have seen only a 3000 person increase in average attendance. Just take a look at mustangstats' attendance post and you will see this point. After beating TCU we had a horrible showing at UCF. This was when the team was riding a four game win streak and was receiving top 25 votes.

11-1 wouldn't have improved attendance significantly because we had a terrible home slate this season but it would have been our first real step in the right direction. Bottom line is we haven't won enough (no conference championships, no high-profile bowl bids, no time spent ranked) or put an exciting enough product out on the field (where is the high-powered Run and Shoot?) to draw any casual fans (the kind needed to fill Ford on a regular basis). At this point this program has made nothing but penny-ante moves that register with casual fans on the same level as any of our other seasons (not at all). When we give people a reason to come they'll come, right now I can't blame anyone who doesn't want to waste their money and 4 + hours of their lives watching an inconsistent, boring product.

Do you know who quit? Just seems like some of you are casting a wide net by saying the team quit or players quit. And I think McD is getting way too much hate (unless he quit too and someone can prove it)...when a player doesn't perform, I think a lot of the blame should fall on the coaches. They recruited the guy, he is giving 100% but just can't get the job done.

Gotta say I didn't see any quitting Sat against Rice. The D was flying around and Williams and Wimbley were digging for every inch. Mistakes aplenty but they overcame them. They could have quit. After 5 turnovers one could expect a lot of teams to quit. But not this SMU team. They fought for that win till the end. And this team went 1-2 against top 25 teams. And BSC has us ranked at # 58. The upper half of teams. Vast improvement.

Bowls are rewards for the players and this team earned a good bowl. I hope they go to a bowl that the kids enjoy. I would love it if I could have a reasonable chance to attend. But I can watch it on TV if it is too far for me to travel.

This is a fair statement. And to be fair to the team, they did not quit the last two games. They got beaten by Houston but showed no quit. Players quit during Tulsa and USM. I'm not going to call out any specific players but when someone tells you his teammates mailed it in during those games, you have to believe it. But that happens during a season to all teams once they realize they are not going to achieve their ultimate goal. I guess I should have been more specific in my criticism.
