Encouraged optimistic and " real proud of our kids" only goes so far. And it usually isn't 6-7 years

whose players are they? Orisinis? you are not gonna win all the close games, the real problem though is that there are some glaring missing pieces right now that are holding us back and even problematic looking ahead to next year as well. We don't have a true post man on the roster. Doh has brought in 2 shooters from Juco that simply haven't panned out in Clink and Pats. Even as seniors they are not producing. JFrog is a good energy guy, but is a marginal point guard even for CUSA. You can't be lacking in those 3 key areas (post, shooting, and point guard) in year 6 of your tenure and expect to get an extension. If we don't extend after this season, is Doh a lame duck recruiter this fall heading into the last year of his contract? Granted, we could give him a meaningless public extension, but if we have a .500 or losing season this year, what message does that send after 6 years?

Instead, we hand the ball back w/double-digit seconds left, after getting no look. The facts are that our freshman looked quite good. Nyakundi isn't a leader or he would lead. He's a shooter, that isn't always on, not his fault, but it is what it is.
Doh has improved us to the point of being in basically every game, even vs pwoer conference clubs etc. What he hasn't been able to do is win any of those games w/consistency. In a year he needed those close ones to fall his way, we're losing more of them than ever. Like I've said, the man is going to the leave the program in good shape. He's just not the X &Os guy that elevates a program beyond its talent. We need one of those, who also hires recruiters.
For all you followers of The Maharishi Mahesh Yogi aka Hoopmanx who think he his word is the "gospel" and he is the choosen one to speak about SMU basketball our freshman are not that talented. As a coach, you don't ever put yourself in a situation where you have to win the game on a last second shot - you make more than 16-26 and lots more if you convert you are in the thirties on the free throw line and the game is over. He was selected The National Coach of the Year at Carolina - not bad for a guy who can't coach.

Glad the Duke fans didn't say that in Coach K's 1-5 years. They wanted him fired also. John Wooden didn't win his first NCAA Title until he was 54.
Rice, Tulane, and us all must take a certain kind of student athlete that the rest of league doesn't have to deal with. We are kinda like the Northwestern of the Big Ten unless you want to go back to the dirty ole days where Dave Bliss and company were doing there thing and football before that.
Personally give me a team like last year and still have faith in this year. RGV if you want a
"dirty" program to get wins, then hope that never happens. Tell me this - how many NBA players has SMU produced and we know John K. was paid - he admitted it in a article.

Giddy up - Did the check the Florida State/North Carolina score at FSU last night? If not make sure you check it out. I think Roy would disagree with you.

Those two teams had disappointing losses in their big years, but they also had some big wins. Our team has had plenty of discouraging losses, but none of the watershed wins.
Oh Really, so Memphis is not considered a big win? Tell that to our past players who worked their tails off everyday. You have NO idea how hard it is to WIN A GAME and especially on the road and then combined with decent players - Again - UTEP/MEMPHIS played last season for the right to go to the NCAA Tournament. Both programs currently have NBA players playing this season.
