Point is we do not know why Nutt did not get the job. In case you do not know, he has a bit of an ego. I am sure he has a minimum price and very likely they would or could not pay it.

And I am not pushing Nutt. But I do know he would make a great, quick splash. The aftermath is the problem.

Leopold, I think you were one of the ones last year that did not know Mack had a rep for being a really good recruiter and a poor coach. In fact, I don't even think you thought his job was in jeopardy when in fact it was. Most people credit his recruiting for winning as much as he did not his coaching. My goodness he got the best talent in Texas if not the country and most would say they underachieved. If he underachieved at Texas with more talent than anyone in the country what would he do with less talent? I think that is a legitimate concern.

Are you kidding? I know - and knew - damn well his innovations in recruiting and his job was in jeopardy. I just pulled forhim to beat OU and it pi$$ed some people off in here. All I've said is that the right coach can win here, regardless of whether or not he's a retread.

Look, I'm drinking in a bar right now but when I'm recovering tomorrow I'll refute that notion if a can remember to. In the meantime, no offense but its a 'legitimate.'

How much do you think Larry Brown will be involved in suggesting coach candidates?

LB is way too busy trying to close out the last 4 or 5 slots we have open on the hoops 2015 class by signing day which is fast approaching. He has been on the move recently.

I wonder if Larry even follows football.

Meh, he doesn't have to sign anyone in November.

Nutt was also turned down by UConn who could pay him. I think FAU just didn't want him and rightfully so.

Mack got horrible talent. Rivals was started by longhorns. The proof is in the pudding, Texas looked bad vs good talent. BYU made them look div 2

At the minimum, interviewing Mack would be very beneficial to Hart. Having him give his insight and ideas about a program like ours would be invaluable. At least hear what he has to say if he is willing to sit down with us.

under achieved? hmmm. he had a 5 win season in 2010. then an 8 win season in 2011. then a 9 win in 2012. everything before 2010? three 9 win seasons his first 3 years, then (some would say after he got HIS kids in place) he went, in order, 11-2, 11-2, 10-3, 11-1, 13-0, 10-3, 10-3, 12-1, 13-1, then fell to the 5 win season mentioned above.

Mack's ONLY problem was Big Game Bob the only 2 years they won the conf, were the years they beat OU, and both those years that they won the conf, they were playing in the national championship game.

1 BCS Natl Champ game, 1 Fiesta, 2 Rose (one of which was Nat'l champ before it was taken out of roto), 3 Cotton, 5 Holiday, 2 Alamo.

you can probably count on one hand the number of coaches that have those numbers over that period. hell, Stoops is one of them and he only won one national championship and that was w/ John Blake's recruits.

We would be competitive from day one with Mack Brown as our HC. The infusion of talent and charisma to SMU (not to mention a guy who will be relentless in selling the program to anyone who will listen) would be a quantum leap forward for SMU football. He's right behind Morris as my personal favorite for the job.

If Gilbert had developed and/or David Ash had managed to stay healthy, he would probably still be coaching the Longhorns. Many people forget that the defense improved dramatically after they replaced Diaz.

Think about it this way: He got fired after beating K-State, TCU, TT, OU, and WVU (plus a few spares) in a single season. He lost to Baylor and Oregon after David Ash got hurt and McCoy II stunk up the place - again. With David Ash at QB, his only loss was at BYU.
