one area that would be instantly hot is the "transfer market". Talk about a network geared up overnight for transfers through the high school coach network! There would be 10-12 coming in within weeks.

You could even set this up very similar to how Larry Brown has done
Senior Coach: Mack Brown
Coordinators: Experienced Coaches with definite Head Coach potential
Assistants: young, aggressive assistant staff with strong Texas ties to work hard in recruiting
That is the formula that has never been tried at SMU since DP

When Mack Brown was at UT some Ponyfans posters were saying how Mack got all those 5 star recruits but did not develop or coach them very well. Now he has turned into Nick Saban.

They're all better than Mack Brown.
Hell, I'd take Muschamp (once he gets the axe) over Mack Brown.

I he got 3.5 star guys here it wouldn't matter if he developed them or not - we are playing ACC teams not Alabama. We haven't had many classes with more then one or two three star guys.
I don't think there are very many older coaches that fit our needs, however if Brown had an interest you would have to look hard at it. Some very big strengths for sure.

rayburn - you are looking borderline insane suggesting those three as better than Brown.

I was skeptical of LB - first that he would really want to come to SMU and second if he would really succeed. He proved me wrong on my doubts. If Mack wants to come here, i am all for it.
He would have alumni eating out of his hand and throwing money at him and the program. We would get coverage from every media outlet in the country. Mack would elevate this programs stature beyond anything we have seen in 30 years.
I remember when June came on board and I had people asking about the program. It impressed me that June had that kind of Stature. If Mack came to SMU you could multiply that by a thousand. If would be insane.
He would recruit because he always recruits. June had never recruited so he didn't. Two different worlds.

If we were winning 9-10 games consistently I wouldn't care one bit if we had to get rid of that little SMU to the NFL video they play so we can be updated on Aldrick Robinson's 1 catch for 6 yards each Saturday.

The three of those guys combined aren't even in the same universe as Mack Brown. From recruiting, winning percentage, ties to Texas, recruiting, etc..... Not even close.

Mack Brown is as used up as JJ. HS coaches were badmouthing him in his last three years and recruits were looking to places other than Austin.

Hell you could run junior high right and junior high left all game long in The American with a roster full of Mack Brown recruited studs and we'd be in contention for a conference title every year.

Flat out stupid to compare Mack to June Jones. And last I checked Mack Brown was still reeling in Top 15 classes right up until he stepped down last year. He is beloved in the HS coaching community.

Mack's early success at Texas was very often the fact that it was TEXAS. he did a good job at UNC, but the Tar Heels also have a football tradition. How did Mack do at Tulane? He was 11-23.
