Look at the front page of Dallasnews.com right now if you have any question about what this hire would do for SMU football

Ha! Thanks. As much as our product has to be rebuilt, so does our image. I can't think of a more qualified person to do that Mack. What are this program's two biggest issues? Recruiting and support. Mack is the best closer around and as Sherrington said in the DMN, Mack could sell ice to an eskimo.

Exactly. That's my point. If we want to build this brand we need the exposure.

Agreed.

The contract being floated is wayyyyyy too long (granted CoC can spend their money how they please).

In general, I am against hiring retread coaches because for better or worse you know what you're going to get. Why would Mack Brown take the SMU job for anything other than a $4M/yr paycheck? Also his coaching tree / staff at UT was wayyyyyyy under-whelming, so I am not hopeful that he brings in a quality staff.

From Shaggy Bevoo:
http://www.shaggybevo.com/board/showthr ... ching-Tree

It pretty much sucks. You'd think that a guy, making more $ than any HC in 'Merica and "with a lot of 10-win seasons", who has been coaching for almost 30 years would have a great coaching tree lineage under him, but it's not the case.

To me this is exhibit A in the case against him as to why he isn't fit to turn this program around. Not only is he not training players to maximize their potential, he is not training his coaches enough to maximize their potential.

His tree underlings:
Sparky Woods
John Palermo
Ron Cooper
Greg Davis
Joe Philbin (shouldn't count; he coached under MB at Tulane as a GA back in the 80s)
Carl Torbush
Tim Brewster
$#@! Tomey (again, shouldn't count. He's 13 years older than MB and surely didn't learn a thing from MB)
Greg Robinson
Gene Chizik
Will Muschamp

Mack Brown isn't the only coach that could get us exposure. Just like any other coach he's going to have to win or all that exposure will go away.

Prior to Brown's arrival, the Texas Longhorns had an 11-year record of 72-54-2

My word that's a sad little tree. I'm sure it'll get better though, Mack's fan club told me so.

Harry, would you advise your UT friends to take advice from Ponyfans posters?

This not 2007 and we are not starving men. We have very good options this time. No more overpaid mercenaries. 8 year contract with no exit clause, no way.

Mack Brown has far out performed every UT coach in history except Royal and matches up well with him. Not your first choice? Great. Worried he doesmt have the fire anymore? Valid concern. Think MB sucks? You are clueless.
