Re: Nic Moore Joining KU Team @ World Univ. Games
Pros:
Great experience for Nic getting to play overseas (which he will probably do after SMU)
Nic gets to learn from Bill Self and practice against some of the best players in CBB
Shows other recruits that Larry has connections to set them up w/ great opportunities
Cons
Risk of injury- which seems like a huge potential con, but players play in summer leagues or could just as easily hurt themselves in a pickup game over the summer.
I don't see what the big deal is. If Nic wants to do it and Larry is OK with it, who are we to judge?

I think the counter-point to this more concerns Larry. He's responsible for protecting the program and the school, and for doing what's best for all of his kids, collectively. In this instance, the counter-point would say, while it's great for Nic personally and one certainly couldn't fault him, Larry should be more aware of the negative impact it has (lack of time together over the summer v. quality competition) or could have (injury) with the benefits to the team and program (absolutely zero).
The counter-point would also say the negatives are compounded because we want to be big time, and we're letting a blue blood rent our best player and best chance of an extended tournament run, which feels like salt in the wound because it makes us look like a JV developmental squad after Self poached Jerrance and then poached Vick, who likely would have been the best recruit of the Brown era to ever suit up for the program.
In short, the counter-point would say less letting Self suck at the program like a leech, and more get yourself another top-flight recruiter in a major basketball city and learn how to run a college program with staying power.

Wow. Nic starts. 2-2 from the field with a 3 early, and an assist as well.

Larry is three steps beyond most of us. I think the reason he does this sort of thing is it makes us look bigger then most, and it also shows that no matter what Larry supports his players and tries to get them what they all want - a pro check. This helps Nic's exposure at a time when he needs that badly. The dude is short. He needs some help getting a check in this game somewhere and this will help him. Other players talk and also see this - you want to make some money when you leave college - LB will do what it takes to help you.
And yes - the kansas jersey makes me barf. Self owes us.

I just don't see the downside. Who cares if we're helping out Bill Self? They're not a conference rival or a traditional rival of SMU, Larry is tight with him, AND it's beneficial for Nic.
Also- KU recruits all four and five star guys every year....next time one of those guys wants to transfer, I wonder if Self might tell him to check out SMU.

We've got one of the best coaches in America touting Nic Moore as an All-American candidate at PG-there is value in that across the Country for the entire program
