The idiot that was on the hunger strike at Missouri was the son of a corporate executive who made over $8M last year. I'm starting to think the far right made this up to troll liberals into supporting a cause so stupid

Yes, dealing with racial issues with a dismissive school president is stupid. Of course with you any issue that racial issue blacks bring up is PC stuff or not valid and you say it in such a vitriolic mocking way. Maybe you have a little prejudice in you too. LOL. I also noticed you haven't commented on the "White girl only party" at Yale.

Heard in a brief interview, that he had taken steps to make sure he wasn't going to die during his strike.

Yes it very much was a facetious comment.

We will appropriate their culture with high pressure defense and marginalize them in society as we drive down the lane and throw the jam

I think a whites-only party at Yale or anywhere else is wrong, and I think that goes without saying.

But I don't see why the Mizzou president had to resign? A college campus with 20,000+ people is going to produce some idiots saying and doing stupid stuff, that's a part of life, not the fault of a college president. And my understanding was that the one kid they caught yelling slurs was kicked off campus and was awaiting disciplinary action from the school? Um, what else are they supposed to do - tar and feather him in the middle of campus?

Oh and the poop swastika- I was reading today that there's no concrete evidence that even happened, and furthermore, even if it did, are we sure it wasnt some artistic criticism of Nazism/Fascism/Aryans? The Student Body President at Mizzou is a Black gay guy, so how hostile of an environment is it really for minorities there? Remember Michael Sam?

What else happened? They cut benefits for grad students? Should the Dean of the Graduate programs resign too? Might be a budgetary issue- should the entire Board resign?

Bottom line- students today want to amplify these "microaggressions" to infinity so they can be paint themselves as victims. That hunger strike kid whose Dad made $8M last year is more privileged than about 95% of SMU students, let alone Mizzou students- and he was demanding the Mizzou president admit his privilege? I feel like I'm reading satire when I read about this crap.

Oh, and it didn't take long for the disease to spread to Ithaca College in NY: http://college.usatoday.com/2015/11/11/ ... -walk-out/

I do not want to make any assumptions about this post that has, for lack of a better word, troubled me over the weekend. So I will ask a question. How is the fact that his father earned over $8M last year relevant to the student protesting racism on campus? If you are saying what I think you are saying, at what income bracket should African Americans stop complaining about racism? I have read enough of your post to know that you are not naive enough to believe that only poor African Americans experience racism, so I am truly interested in your response.

smudubs, I will tell you something I think is related, but not about race.

John Lennon is IMO one of the greatest artists of the 20th century. His signature song is 'Imagine'. Here are some of the lyrics. "Imagine no possessions, I wonder if you can, No need for greed or hunger, A brotherhood of man, Imagine all the people, Sharing all the world"

As much as I admire John Lennon, is he the right person to give this message? In today's dollars John would be a billionaire. And he certainly did not 'share' his money away upon his death, quite the opposite, his kid Julian had to legally fight Yoko for his inheritance.

If this black kid spoke of racism, he has every right to. If he spoke of 'privileges' that occur by having wealth, maybe, like Lennon, while he still has every right to, maybe he's not the ideal messenger.

FWIW, I have zero idea what this student said.

a fire is brewing on a DMN Comment page right now with regard to an SMU rally today-I doubt and hope those commenting aren't SMU alumni

i wouldn't call that a fire brewing. Mostly two knuckleheads - one on each side of whatever the issues is, saying - "are to,…. not either,…. are to"! Pretty tame by internet blog standards.

If the blacks students felt like they have a grievance, i am happy they had it heard. Cant imagine what it would be at SMU. Our administration is pretty on top of these things. There are black kids all in student government, fraternities, and other leadership positions. Hell we just gave the DAA emerging leader award to a young Dallas based african american, liberal, preacher/civil rights leader.

i will say this - universities are supposed to be places where all sides of issues, both polical and otherwise, can be discussed. If we ever lose that (as many other universities seem to have lost) then we will be a lessor educational institution.

He was demanding that the now former president of Mizzou admit his "white, male privilege" before resigning. But if your dad makes $8M/year, you're more privileged than 99.9% of Americans, period. Ironically, he was much more "privileged" in his life than the man whose resignation he demanded.

Also, here's the video of him at the HC parade, where he claimed he was "hit" by the car. In reality, he jumped in front of it to cause a scene. As it turns out, Jonathan Butler is just a bratty POS son of a rich guy. He would have fit right in at SMU!
