Their fans go to games. Our fans complain on message boards because people don't go.

They are in the Big 12. We are not.

I have always felt that much, but not all, of our attendance issues have to do with the total irrelevance of most of our opponents insofar as our fans are concerned. We always draw pretty well among out own when we play an old SWC foe. U of H being the glaring exception.

By the way, we should send the wives of the Big 12 presidents and ADs promo material on Dallas shopping, dining, and nightlife. I think Lubbock is still the third largest city in that league.

And I am totally apolitical, but W's library and conspicuous presence at our basketball games shouldn't hurt us in light of the Republican leaning tendencies of every state in that conference.

ΓÇ£President Turner and I have communicated to the Big 12 our interest in pursuing membership along with the reasons why we would be an excellent long-term partner,ΓÇ¥ Hart told The Dallas Morning News on Thursday. ΓÇ£We feel that we belong and have assets that no one else can offer."

Wondering what "assets" they're offering. . . .

It would be kind of funny if Eastern Carolina got in when they were originally one of the unwanted C-USA schools for The American.

I know I speak for a lot of people, including I suspect you, RGV, when I say that over the past 25+ years, you couldn't give away tickets to 95%+ of our conference games. Nobody's interested in attending a 2nd rate event, Dallas simply has better entertainment options.

UT, Ok St, Baylor & OU, TCU, Tech alternating years as your conference home opponents and that changes everything.

SMU not only needs to take a pro rated conference split but also give up some of the home game gate against conference opponents. Let's assume we move the "big" games (OU, UT) to the Cotton Bowl and give the visiting team all the seating revenue - after stadium use expenses - above our average gate of about 20,000. Same with conference games at Ford - say 1/2 the seats over our season tickets would go to the visiting team.
SMU haven't drawn flies in football over the last 25yrs but a quality opponent does draw and they should enjoy much of that revenue.

Our simply give the visiting team a much larger ticket allocation than has been done historically, That way the other team can create good will by rewarding their fans who might be priced out of their home stadium or don't want to travel to the home stadium. Dallas is a great road trip - maybe the best in the Big 12 - we should take advantage of that.

We better get creative to make up for our lack of "electronic footprint".

This logic, and dealing from such a position of extreme weakness, only confirms why any serious discussion of expansion never includes SMU.

BYU, Cincy, Memphis, Houston, UCF, and any real contenders, would laugh at the thought of such concessions.

The announcement of the actual expansion teams can't come soon enough, to finally end this nonsense.

No maybes about it. Dallas the city would undoubtedly be the best road game, followed by Austin, followed by nobody.

Love Field's proximity to SMU is also a big plus.
