All the talk about "name opponents" and meaningful games" is just further evidence of how little most SMU students/alumni care about college athletics, football in particular. We play in a very competitive division in the American and anyone who has followed college football knows that Houston has knocked off several P5 teams in recent years so playing and beating the Cougs should be a pretty big deal for SMU. What about Memphis beating UCLA this year? Is UCLA not a "name school"? Shouldn't our game against Memphis be a pretty big deal? And with the success Navy has enjoyed and the way they have thrashed us in recent years, that game should be a pretty big deal.

As others have pointed out, SMU has not drawn big numbers in Dallas since the Cowboys became successful. Not sure we will ever consistently pack Ford with SMU fans supporting the home team no matter who the opponent, but if this program ever reaches a top 25 talent level, I have to believe more non-affiliated DFW football fans might show up so I will remain hopeful.

we have the same potential as tcu in football. to draw decent crowds we must land in a p5 conference and compete with those schools. name schools are schools in a p5 conference. Memphis is not a name school in football. basketball is a different animal.

You think this is embarrassing? Why??? SMU has been very successful in showing up at prior Gamedays. Why shouldn't one in the area be any different? I call it being proactive.

No, I didn't get the email.

Totally agree. In the past posters on Ponyfans have rallied students to get to any Game Day location with SMU signs. I guess since it was the administration’s idea it is now bad.

That isn so sad and typical SMU. We have a game 3.5 hrs away and they are encouraging people to go to TCU to hold up a sign that will do absolutely nothing.

There is plenty of time to do both.
