Once they’ve seen Paris it’s hard to get them back on the farm ...
Let’s find the best up and comer $2 million/ yr. can buy.
While that is true for Les Miles, Todd Graham coached at Rice and Tulsa with both facing similar challenges, and Sumlin coached at UH which also had its challenges with attendance and played road games at SMU so he would know what he is getting himself into.

Why? He hasn't been a head coach, and he hasn't been a defensive coordinator very long.
The team in Houston was stacked with talent. This years Texas defense was stacked with talent, inherited from a defensive minded coach whose best recruits are juniors--many leaving for the NFL. UT still barely made it to 6-6 if not for them knocking the WVU quarterback out of the game.

You should read up on him, he actually has over a decade of DC experience and has a history of getting great results out of lesser talent.

I value folks like Stallion's opinion. What do you think?
I know we want TX and recruiting first and foremost. Keep offense system intact and can either be, or bring, a great DC. High energy, great ambassador for SMU.
Agree that Orlando/Traylor might be the best combo ?

does anybody know what his personality is like? is he more like morris or herman? not sure a herman type would mix well at SMU.

Forrest Gregg who won 3 games that no one in the country thought he would win, including the Miracle on Mockingbird.

Orlando is super intense. I think his mindset would fit with the culture Chad was building. Orlando HC and Traylor OC would be a nice combo to start with. Only challenge with Traylor at OC is that he doesn't have assistants to bring with him, he would have to fill a staff from scratch.
The assistants are what make or break this hire. Morris had contacts, but his entire offensive staff could really coach and recruit well.

@YahooForde: Sonny Dykes a name to watch at SMU, I'm told. Former Cal coach with deep Texas roots, spent this season as an analyst/consultant at TCU.

"SMU: Sources tell FootballScoop SMU is looking for the ΓÇ£next Chad Morris.ΓÇ¥ While that may be hard to find, what is being sought is ΓÇ£an offensive minded guy, innovative, the players will like and respect and who will recruit the daylight out of Texas,ΓÇ¥ a source tells FootballScoop. We are told interim head coach Jeff Traylor is a candidate for the position but search director Todd Turner of CSA is recommending several external candidates as well. Another great coach still on staff is defensive coordinator Van Malone, recently named an AFCA assistant coach of the year, who at this time is not expected to go to Arkansas with Morris (Morris has targeted Brent Venables, sources told FootballScoop) as defensive coordinator."
Oh, I hope he's not a candidate, this place would melt down.

Actually like this name. HC experience (P5 at that), young (only 48), Texas ties. Lots to like.
