The Baylor game last year was definately the worst played football game that I have ever seen. Both teams were absolutely terrible. A pee-wee game at the Park Citites YMCA would have been a better football game.

Despite the fact that winning cures all ills, the separation of the students from their interest/participation in FB games is the one that concerns me the most. This was a big price to pay.

The studennts need to feel a renewed commitment to their team. It is more than a social event.

Missing from your list: 1) Russ Anderson missing a chip shot field goal in the final moments of the 1992 Tulane game which would have given us a win and our first post DP winning season and would could have provided some much needed momentum for the program; 2) blowing the Ole Miss game at the Cotton Bowl - I think 1998; 3) Steve Malin disaster; 4) OT loss to BYU in 1997 in a game we should have won against a decent BYU team.

While we certainly squandered opportunities in the early post dp years by playing at Ownby and self-inflicting ridiculous academic standards for players, I believe we lost a lot of opportunities in 1996-99 time frame when Rossley/Cavan had the guys playing in tight games, but we just couldn't get over the hump and get used to winning. After the Malin thing, it was like Cavan just gave up. Since then we've gotten progressively worse.

I'll be there this season, but based on our downward spiral, my expectations are extremely low. A win or two would be nice . . .

If we were still aligned with Texas and A&M, we could have weathered any storm.

Agree that the hiring of Pye, the decision to play in Ownby (without a plan in place to build Ford), the demise of the SWC and the Malin incident (and subsequent probation) have to be at the top of any list.

SWC2010: That's a long haul from UTEP to Taos! That's all the way across the state of New Mexico! Perhaps a trip to Ruidoso would be more in tune?

How can the loss of Sanders be more important than the loss of McCown, whose transfer parlayed him into the NFL?

The worse thing to happen since the DP was the loss of political power with the State government. The State permitted the demise of the SWC, a monumental miscarriage of justice. History shows that SMU,TCU, UT & A&M were the jewels of the SWC.

These are all good points!! I think another one is the loss of a key recruit that ended up going to Oklahoma State. Kevin Headrick from Ponca City, OK, back in the early 90's was a offesnive lineman stud that would have helped Flanagan tremendously. He was 6'4, 280 and solid muscle! He was even quick. He never panned out at OSU you and rumor was that he became involved with some shady characters and may have lived in a trailer for some time. Last I saw, he had married some OK girl, who was well above him in social status and for some reason, he probably regrets that decision to this day.

How about Phil Bennett's defense? For a defensive minded coach, he blew it in that respect.

NOPE!! IMO the worst thing (#1) was not having the balls to sue the NCAA for selective enforcement. We had a war chest pledged by many alumni to fight that war. In the end the Alums were asked not to push the issue as it would only continue as bad press for the University. I have always related my alma mater to Richard Nixon. We didn't do anything the other schools weren't doing - we just got caught. I will always hate Texas U. (whiney Freddie Akers) and the Texas faggies (slimey Jackie Sherril). They were the ones who pushed the issue with the NCAA.
Okay - that is past- now we move forward. New hope and new victories.
I relish the day when we can again play the t-sips and faggies and whip their tails.
