This is just absurd......any rumors of Spurrier or Switzer coming to SMU is just ridiculous.....the only big name coach we could score would have to be some reject getting a second chance like Mike Price or Bob Davie.......that would be a little more realistic.
Barry Switzer will come here just as soon as my portfolio drops below 8 digits......try never!

Ah yes- the "let's fire the coach" group is at it again. Try putting some of that energy into supporting the one we have. He arrived with the cupboard bare and is reloadiong with the best athletes we have seen since Rossley and probably the DP. He has had 2 1/2 years. No one should peep about replacing him for 2 more years unless he were to go o'fer again. Get a grip young'ens.
As for Mustang 1965 being negative- Is that what would you call the most open cheerleader on the board? Don't you read other's posts?

Sir Troll A Lot, you are the biggest tool I have ever seen on the Internet. Give me a break! You are full of crap and have a completely worthless existence if you have time to come on here and hype everyone up with your lame rumors. I bet one of your old roommates got to know "Switzer" and one thing led to another, thus giving you the inside scoop. If I wasn't in San Francisco, I would be happy to meet you behind Moody and give you a world class beating!!!

Wow, I can't believe this stupid thread is so long. I guess I must have a special gift that allows me to see into the future, because I KNOW who the football coach at SMU will be next year. Let me end the suspense now.....the answer is.....Phil Bennett!!!!

For someone from the city of peace and love, you sure are an a-hole.

I always accused my brother of lacking any sense when he mentions that Switzer is just sitting on his couch in Norman waiting for the phone to ring. Is it feasible that he would come here? No. If I told you back in 1993 that Switzer would coach the Cowboys to a Super Bowl, would I have been labelled a crackpot? Sure. Is Sir Trolls A Lot the biggest tool on the internet. Not even close. The point is there is always the off chance that Switzer, Spurrier, Solich, or Slocum(we will only hire a coach with a last name that starts with S) just might appear here someday. All are a step up over what we have. I like Phil but would love the instant recognition that a "name" coach would bring to SMU.

OldPony,
Are you going senile? Are these the same wonderful athletes that got run over last weekend by a freshman quarterback that is under six foot and 200 pounds? I have never seen such a stupid comment in all of my life.
Sir Trolls A Lot hits on a big theme, our media coverage stinks. Since moving from Dallas (1995), I watched our coverage slip from its height in the mid-80's. When we were getting good coverage, players like Craig James and Eric Dickerson came to the program. Now, SMU isn't even a finalist for a player like Vince Young. Bringing in Barry would do a lot to bring SMU into the media mainstream.
OldPony, I guess you enjoy hearing our alma mater trashed in the press?

I would watch your mouth, Really Fat Guy. It's my understanding that you're making a lot of people unhappy when you speak your mind. There have already been threats of a physical nature from one poster to another on this thread. Some of our fellow ponyfans are truly unbalanced.

geez- can't get Adrian Peterson-can't get Vince Young. It truly is shocking that 0-12 SMU can't sign either one of these guys who both rated as the NUMERO UNO recruits in the Nation in their class.

With friends like you, Stallion, who needs enemies? You must be a TCU troll or something. It's no wonder that we can't get guys like AP. Recruits read fan boards. What I imagine happened is that when it came time for AP to pick school to play at and his second cousin, a former SMU player, told him to check out SMU, he signed onto ponyfans.com only to read one of your little rays of sunshine. What SMU needs to be succesful is positive media coverage and fans who instead of taking time to make 2500 posts use that time more wisely by making local media outlets aware that SMU fans do pay attention and do demand fair coverage. You don't have to be a troll, Stallion. You don't have to be a hindrance, you can be a help. Why don't you help your alma mater and work with your fellow ponyfans to bring in a name coach that can generate some true buzz? Leave the players out of this one, ok?

Laura Bush Lover and Really Fat Guy, you sound like politicians. Just because you say something is perfect, and everyone will get everything they could ever ask for doesn't mean it is going to happen. You can't give tax cuts, and simultaneously create lots of new programs without causing huge deficits and threatening the countries financial security. Likewise you can't force the Dallas media to broadcast nothing but roses (even if we all really want them to,) and not expect people to eventually see if for the lies they are. I want a winning program, but it isn't all the medias fault.

Actually, the DMN articles leading into the season were pretty rah rah, or at least fair. We took care of creating the negitive coverage.

JasonB wrote:Barry switzer's brain got the death penalty a long time ago. After he was first hired as coach of the Cowboys, I met him at Love field. We were both waiting at the same terminal. I was watching the pre-season game between the Redskins and whoever they were playing.
He walks up next to me, and we start talking football. He asks me, how is that new QB for the Redskins doing, what's his name? This is the HEAD FOOTBALL COACH Of the Dallas Cowboys. And he did not know the name of the Number 1 draft pick and new starting QB of the Redskins, Heath Shuler. I lost immediate respect for the guy. He never did anything to gain it back. I would be extremely dissappointed if SMU hired him on.
I've never met Switzer, but I know a few people who have. One met him at a funeral and spoke to him briefly; 5 years later they met again and Barry remembered his name. I've heard a similar story from another person. Barry was probably yanking your chain.
For those of you who don't think Barry Switzer could still recruit, you're nuts. He could run the wishbone and get rake in enough talent to make any school a top 20 program... especially one in Dallas. If you want to call his program dirty, check out what Texas or any other southwest conf. school was doing during his time.
That said, I think the odds of him coming here are about zero to zero.
