BOYCOTT: Show Dickerson and James we mean business!!!
Moderators: PonyPride, SmooPower
I was close to throwing things at my TV last night listening to Craig James. It was embarrassing. He was talking about how there should be a Non-BCS championship game between Utah and Louisville. I wanted to grab him and choke him and say, "Craig, if SMU turns things around, and we have an undefeated season, would you want us to play Boise State, UNT or BYU in the Liberty Bowl, or UT in the Fiesta Bowl?" He has unfortunately become a tool for the BCS. No wonder he doesn't want his kid to come to SMU, we don't play big time football anymore. Had he shown an ounce of loyalty to his roots, he would have said, Louisville, Boise and Utah are great teams this year. Utah smashed a good Aggie team, they deserve a shot at a good team in the bowls this year. Boise is undefeated and beat two BCS teams. Louisville nearly beat Miami on the road for their only loss. They should all get consideration for the BCS Bowls.
There is no doubt that both James & Dickerson were talents. We will never know how good/bad they might have been had they not ended up at SMU (personally, I think ED would have rec'd an [deleted] whippin daily by Bosworth or Casilas @ OU).
But in the Perfect Storm that was SMU in the early 80's they were also surrounded by talent. The team, staff, etc. were all on the top of their game during that 'era'. OK, and the pay was good, too.
You would think athletes like Dickerjames would realize that teams get better when everything & everybody is clicking. Just check their NFL stats to see if a single talent can win.
Their best days as FB players were at SMU-- perhaps that's why they have been thoughtless & outspoken in their recent comments. They think they're entitled. But they should bring a solution to the problem, not carp & ridicule the existing team situation.

My impression was Dickerson and James were more upset with the administration than the coaches or team. And we should all be upset with the administration. They were asked their opinions and they gave it. I do agree it would be much more helpful if they were part of the progress and not just taking shots. But still, we need them, SMU ex-players and fans involved, then we can bring about change with the administration.

Dickerson is the fourth all-time rusher in NFL history.

Ahead of him are Emmitt, Walter, and Barry. In other words, he had a very good pro career. His last years with the Falcons and Raiders were not memorably, but he was a hell of a pro. What planet are you on?
As for James, he was cog in that 1985 New England team. Now, he has a pretty awesome job at ABC. I doubt that he is one of those guys sitting around harping about his college days.
Attacking Dickerson and James only makes you look like a fool.
Perhaps I should have used the word "Arguably" prior to my comment.
Sir, you are right that James was instrumental in the 85 Pats. But it came & went in a single season. And ED was given the ball alot & he got yards and some individual accolades.
But most play to win games not individual awards ( well that's probably not true of ED). My point was that they had a helluva run at SMU & it may have been their finest moments in a FB uniform.
Bottom line of this thread, though, is they did no service to SMU ot the FB program by their recent comments...

A well thought out and reasoned post...Kudos ST. I knew you had it in you. Now drop one of your two alter egos (STaL/LBL) and have more of your reasoned discussions with the rest of us instead of with yourself.Sir Trolls A Lot wrote:SWC2010 wrote:Their best days as FB players were at SMU-- perhaps that's why they have been thoughtless & outspoken in their recent comments.

I figure the amount of time I spend following this board is indicitive of my loyalty to SMU, and I won't have it questioned by the likes of a two-bit sunshiner like yourself.

I need to look this one up, counselor. But I'm pretty sure that saying the SMU football team "sucks" is an act of disloyalty. I'll get back with you on that.
