And its all about the percentages. You are essentially making the argument that you would rather have a sixth round pick than a first round pick. Probably 80% of the time the first rounder will pan out, compared to probably 20% of sixth rounders. Neither is a guaranteed bust or superstar, but I'd rather take my chance with the guy everyone thinks will be a superstar than with the guy who is considered a longshot. Just like I'd rather have the 5-star than the 2-star. Now, I'm sure you can give examples of 5-stars that were busts, but I guarantee you they pan out better than th 2-stars.

Mike, you're preaching to the choir. You and I agree. Of course, after all of the time, energy and $$ is expended by the NFL before the draft, the "odds" are that those players selected in the 1st Round will have a greater "chance" of success to succeed in the NFL than those players selected in lower rounds or signed as free agents. But, the bold pronouncement Stallion made in his typical all-knowing fashion sounded far more reaching than what you and I agree upon. And, that's why I called his number. You and I are on the same page. I just think that our boy Stallion has once again jumped into Never-Never Land with one of his bold, unsubstantiated statements of "fact." Stallion is not Moses. And, he doesn't know all - though he might like to influence the readers of this board to believe that he is. I personally disagree with many of the things that Stallion says on this board. I just don't have the time to challenge all of them. But, right now, as recruiting season is winding down, and Stallion is making his usual BS statements which could hurt our efforts in recruiting, I'm going to wage in and tell him when I think he's full of it, and demand something more than hot air to support his statements. That's all I'm doing.

Mike Damone, you can dislike me and my comments if you want. My point to Stallion was simply aimed at his typical bold, unsubstantiated assertion that there are historical, verifiable predictions which can be made from past NFL drafts. You may agree with him. Obviously, all of the players you list, and I could add to your list as well, have been successful (thankfully for their respective NFL franchise owner's concerns). The point is, however, that, at least insofar as I believe, contrary to Stallion's bold hypothesis, there is no proven, historical, verifiable predictor which can be drawn from prior NFL drafts. You know as well as I do and everyone else on this board that NFL franchises spend tons of $$ year-round aimed towards selecting players in the draft who will prove to be "good gambles." And that's all it is. Wouldn't you have liked to have selected Tom Brady in the 6th Round or Johnny U in the 16th Round?

MUSTANGFOREVER69, all I know is that when our classes in the 80's were filled with National Top 100, and State 100 we were consistently in the Top 25. Now that we are not mentioned in those lists, we are not very good. A simple observation, but there seems to be a strong correlation between consistently recruiting a large number of highly ranked players and excellence on the the field, while the opposite speaks for itself.

71-for-119 passing, about 950 passing yards 8 touchdowns, 2 interceptions.

140 rushes, 1,400-plus rushing yards, 15 rushing touchdowns.

I found something on the internet the other day (before he committed) about Givens, a story that basically talked about his outrageous athletic ability. It talked about great games he had, what a weapon he was for his high school, etc., and it made me wonder if the guy is so athletic he might get a crack at both sides of the ball? Everything I've seen suggests he's been listed as a CB or athlete, but doesn't he just sound like a guy who you'd want to get the ball to?

Yeah, I'd think so. If you can believe the reports, you add Sanders and Givens to the WR crew, and the athleticism goes up. Quickly.
