Japhous Brown is probably a better overall safety than Appel but Appel has made a ton of touchdown saving tackles in his career (albeit he played behind perhaps the worst front 7 at A&M in the last 2 decades in '03). For those of you who have been watching football for a little while I would compare Appel to Tracy Saul who I believe made All American his senior year. Best player in our secondary this year will be Dany Gorrer.

Who are the 4 or 5 safeties in the Big 12 who are better?

If you read the article McNeal stated that he felt we were equal to the top teams in the Big 12 this year. I guess it would have been better for him to claim we expected to lose half our games. Don't know why Wyoming is supposedly better than us when we pretty much took them behind the woodshed at Kyle last year.

The SMU game is our home opener after a week off to correct what we did wrong in our opening game. SMU is not going to win.

I have one thing to say. 35-34 :!:

Don't get me wrong...from your posts it appears that you support SMU except when there's a chance of the Whorns playing the Mustangs. Correct?

I happen to be very good friends with Thadfilms (aka PonyExpress83) and he has gotten me interested in Mustang football. I have attended 3 games in the last 2 seasons and have been following the Mustangs by proxy. Thad and I have a little deal where we're going to travel to each other's home games when the schedules permit. Trust me, I am becoming almost as much and Pony fan as I am a "Whorn" fan. I just happen to jump at any chance to make fun of Aggy whenever I can.

Well...any time there's a chance to convert someone from 'the dark side' to the Mustangs, I'm all for it! Welcome!

As for my use of the term 'Whorns'...someone else on here used it and I thought it was o.k. I've been chastised by others for calling ya'll (that word that begins with 'T' and ends with 'sips') and being told that it's the most Aggie thing someone can do...and God knows, I sure don't want to be considered a bootlicker...so I will no longer use that term.

BTW, 46 posts in five days... that's more than I posted in the first year I was on the board! (I think.)

I have to say it's been much easier for him to become an SMU fan (than it would be for me to root for UT), LF68 didn't grow up a Horn fan... he grew up a Cowboy fan. By the time he attended UT, SMU was wasting away in the Worthless Athletic Conference. I grew up a Pony fan, and to me TCU wasn't the rival, it was UT that I wanted to beat more than any other team on the schedule... so even thinking, "well, it wouldn't be so bad for the Longhorns to win this game" is like thinking, "maybe today I'll stop breathing."

But I do like the folks I've met at the HornFans tailgates. What's terrible is that they're so nice, and most of them openly tell me how much they want to see SMU winning (which is odd, to say the least, and extremely unnerving). Though, thankfully, there is one old guy who still has vitriol for the ponies. It makes me feel good when he walks up and badmouths the SMU jersey I'm wearing, "at least someone around here remembers the good ol' days." He lists off the three best college footballs games he's ever seen, and the only one of the three that wasn't a Longhorn win, was a loss to our Mustangs.

But, I just go to the games and root for the other team, all the while, singin' the praises of the Longhorns back up QB...

I think I'll make up a tee-shirt that says that to wear at the Horn games I attend this year.

Because I will be living in Austin by that time, I'd really love to print up a burnt orange shirt that says, "CONFORMIST", but I know that even the thought of putting that color on my body would make my skin itch and burn.

I am excited, however, to be going to the Texas OU game this year... I think I'll be rooting for the turf monsters.

So McNeal passes for 1000 more yds and you want to compare the two as passers? Young's completions percentage is scewed by the fact that 80 percent of his passes were two yard attempts to a WR or TE in the flat. What did he pass for, a whopping 20 yds against Mizzou? Wow! Young is a gifted runner but noone who knows anything about football would try to make a comparison about the passing abilities of McNeal and Young. Go ask any NFL scout. Young will be a WR in the NFL. Put Reggie behind the tu OLine last year and he passes for 3000 and rushes for 1000. Was Young trying to prove this myth wrong when he was completing 30 percent of his passes against OU?

As for the Baylor fan, enjoy your win that comes along once every two decades. I think your team will be slightly improved this year over last year but you will still lose at Kyle. Most likely by around 17 points.

/\ You are one disillusioned honky, my friend. Texas was a run-first team last year. In case you didn't notice, Vince only attempted about 65% as many passes as Reggie did. Also, Vince was throwing to a much yonger and less proven set of wide receivers than Reggie was, which was part of the problem (if there even is one).

I guess I should have posted this stat: Yards per attempt

Vince: 7.5
Reggie: 8.11

Wow, a whopping half-a-yard difference. Man, Reggie was smoking the db's last year. Look, you keep Reggie and we'll keep Vince and we will see who ends up better in the long run. I've got my money on Vince.

Other way around. Young is a better overall runner, and I think he'll be a damn-good WR in the NFL. But as a passer, he makes McNeal look like John Elway. Young can throw it a decent distance, but that's it.

Let's ask the U Tenn defense about Reggie (38-7). Even trailing 4 TD's, A&M kept running. The A&M coaches know Reggie can run-- not pass.

THank you, finally an aggie that doesnt think it'll be 70-0. I too think it'll be around a 3 TD loss for us but I have scoreboard till then. 35-34

Did you watch the game? Reggie passed for 200 yds against Tennessee. We never tried to establish the run. Just like the tu game. I blame our coaches for that. Yeah, Reggie set the single season record for passing yds last year but our coaches know he can't pass. You got it.

Sipboy,
the two-skip pass is Young's best throw. You receivers were inexperienced last year. However, Young's inability to get them the ball consistently is why your coaches reduced the offense to short throws and Young and Benson running the ball 70 percent of the time. Your coaches played to your strengths and that definitely was not Young's ability to complete an intermediate pass.

Hey, I was as shocked as you were that we beat you by 70 the year before. Morris is a good coach and he will have y'all playing everyone tough eventually. Maybe this year. I think the Bu coaches and the KU DC might be the best X's and Os guys in the league.

Yeah, that's a huge difference. The problem is you're comparing apples to oranges. Texas was a run-first team last year - for many reasons. Not just Vince Young's throwing ability. Besides, 11-1 vs 7-4 should be pretty much enough to shut this argument down for a while.
