1st of all, no one knows what SMU has yet. Second of all, every team we beat last year was better than Baylor.

I am getting pretty worried. My confidence level has risen exponentially over the last week. I feel certain that SMU will beat Baylor. This is not a good sign. It never fails that when I get this confident we lose. Maybe I need to see a tape of that last scrimmage to bring me back down to earth.

I'm right there with you, buddy. This is a very winnable game. It's at home, where I can honestly say, the Ponies started making there advantage last year. It's the season opener against a BCS foe... last year we looked very good vs. Tech, and I truly believe that depth cost us that game, and because of the lack of depth, specific to that game, the injuries suffered by our top flight guys, cost us throughout the season.
Depth is not an issue.
Outclassed in the skill department, also not an issue.
We will be prepared.
We are at home.
This should equal a win.
This sucks. I just want Saturday to get here and see us beat the ever-loving crap out of the Baylorites. I just don't know what I'll do the next morning if we lose... drink whisky for breakfast, I guess.
But what's worse, is I absolutely don't see us losing this game. I just want to throw up.

I think I see a trend here.
I will be at this game after coming back from Norman earlier in the day.
If your gonna be "objective", give us the SMU scores too
The last 4 SMU openers:::
2001: @ La Tech- L 36-6
2002: vs. Navy- L 38-7
2003: @ T Tech- L 58-10
2004: vs. T Tech- L 27-13

Exactly. Your own evidence shows that SMU lost by less than 38 points in 3 out of 4 openers - something Baylor has failed to do.
But other than Tech, you havent really played anyone. And tech spanked you in 2003. You somehow managed to hang with them last year, and I will admit that that was impressive. I watched that game and was actually somewhat pulling for SMU cause I like the underdog. But you cannot look at past years (2 of which were with an old coach, and 2 of which were with a new coach trying to clean up the old coach's loser attitute) and use past years' results as "evidence" as to why we will lose THIS year...
None of the teams that killed us in the past few years were near as bad as SMU is.
Robo, get a clue! I challenge you to find any team in the country that has done as poorly in their road openers as Baylor. You haven't come within 5 TDs in any of the four games. 5 frickin' TDs!
Iowa State beat you 41-0? North Texas crushed you 52-14? Good God, how bad do you have to suck to allow that to happen? And every year, somehow, some way, you Baylor fans think you've turned the corner. I remember reading your message boards last year. All of you were convinced that you would beat UAB, substantially. Yet you're new coach did just as bad as the old coach.
Baylor sucks. I can't wait until we (TCU) pummell you next year.

Here's the difference:
2000 Iowa State Insight.com bowl
2001 Iowa State Independence bowl
2002 Cal Went 7-5 and 2 years later a top 5 team
2002 North Texas New Orleans Bowl
2003 North Texas New Orleans Bowl
2004 UAB Hawaii bowl
These teams were all better then anything SMU has put on the field since they got the death penelty.
Don't get your hopes up too much, Baylor has better athletes, better coaches and will probably have more fans there too

Yes, but SMU doesn't have to beat you by 5 TDs like all the other opponents have in the past 4 years. They just want to beat you by 2 or 3 TDs. That should be doable.

sorry my internet has been out for the past few days, but lifelongbear pretty much summed up my response. Yes, we have had some embarassing losses over the past few years. But those losses were to teams much better than the team SMU will field on Saturday... And on top of that, Baylor is a much better team from previous years. The only game that I believe is relevant to look at out of those games is last years UAB game. The problem with that game was that UAB had a veteran future pro quarterback throwing to a now pro receiver. I underestimated UAB last year, but they are a damn good team. We, on the other hand, had a quarterback in dane king who was playing (and starting) his first ever DI football game behind a week O-line far from home. As a result, we turned the ball over early and often, and it snowballed. That happens in college football. It wont happen this weekend.
And if it does, I will come and tell you guys that I underestimated SMU just as I did UAB.
