I thought it was greatest college soccer stadium in the country.....at least then we could market the product to a populace that might care considering the quality of our soccer programs.

Laugh all you want, but how many of you thought South Florida could get membership into the ‘club’.

I admire UH for stating their goal of joining the BCS. I suspect their prominent school ready to join them is TCU…another school I admire for going the MWC route in an attempt to secure BCS membership.

So in conclusion…UH wants to join the Big 12. TCU wants BCS membership through Mountain West and SMU….well we simply want to win 5 or 6 games a year.

They may not get in, but at least they are thinking big, unlike our leadership.

Well, you've convinced me--they have a better chance than we do.

Not to mention USF actually has a chance to make a BCS bowl, it is between them and W. Va.

JT, TCU actually does and if they were to ever get BCS membership, that would be a much more bitter pill for me than even the DP.

Back to UH, they also bring things to the table that neither SMU nor TCU ever could. First, it's a huge public school. Second, it's in the biggest city in Texas and would provide the Big 12 with a local team in Houston to help recruiting for all members with a regular trip there (why do you think UT agrees to do a home and home with Rice)? Third, it plays all the major sports and has the ability to take advantage of the facilities of the Houston pro franchises. Fourth, it has a not too distant history of success in both major sports.

While their goal may seem farfetched today, if Briles gets their football team back to winning consistently and Penders turns the hoops team around, UH becomes the "sleeping giant" that none of the other non-BCS former SWC schools could ever be with our small private school enrollments.

Of course, the thought of the Big 12 going to 14 appears outlandish. Likewise, the odds of Baylor getting kicked out seem very low so for now I think UH, like all of the other non-BCS schools who aspire to join the club must focus on winning consistently in the major sports (see TCU).

I was being quite serious. TCU does indeed right now have a better chance of getting into a BCS conference than SMU has of reaching a level of consistent 5-6 win seasons in my estimation. That reality is probably a pretty bitter pill for you in and of itself.

hmmm which would you prefer an AD who actually said that he hoped someday that we could get to the point of winning 5-6 games a year or an AD with a public goal to be in a BCS conference. If you were a Coach being interviewed for a head coaching position would that play a factor? I hate to wake some of you up from your long slumber but MOST ADs have very public goals of facilities improvements and conference improvements that they hope to achieve in order to give direction to the program. That's one of my biggest problems with Copeland. What is the plan? In fact I remember writing just a few months ago that I was confused about SMU long term goals? For example, TCU has stated a long term goal of becoming a BCS program-Does SMU have that goal? Maybe they should or shouldn't but I think you draft the Model now to reach the goal tommorrow. I think a pretty convincing argument can be made that Copeland ought to go because there does not appear to be a long term direction or vision for this program-it certainly does appear that the program has run out of ideas and everybody is just playing the status quo.

I suspect Copeland does not want to publicly state our goal is to achieve BCS status because to do so may require some sort of roadmap that would further expose the sham of SMU athletics.

On the subject of UT wanting to join the NFL, that might be incorrect. They actually have a salary cap in the NFL.
