Should he get an extension? At this point no. But at some point we need to commit to him so that recruits won't hear other coaches say things, like "will he be there to see you graduate?" Should he be fired? No. I see some good things on defense and some bad things on offense. My point has consistently been that the jury is still out, and that the DISD coaches have hung him out to dry at this point.

Eaststang, I agree with you on this. He got hung out to dry by his buddies and unfortunately, so did SMU.

How many times has one of our athletic programs been hung out to dry during the Copeland regime?

extension of Cave-ins contract after one year, mutliple exentsions of Bennetts contract without a winning season even, believing DISD coaches with Tubbs.......

I don't see how you can say DISD coaches have "hung Tubbs out to dry" at this point. Maybe they have, maybe they haven't. All I know is, a high school coach can talk up Tubbs and SMU till his face turns blue. But when it comes down to it, a blue-chip kid is going to have to say: "Thanks for the offer Coach K...but I'd really rather play in front of 1500 lackluster fans, a non-existent student section, and cheerleaders that don't cheer, in a city that doesn't care -- plus, don't forget -- at SMU, I can have 60% of my no-look passes bounce off my teammates' faces. Where do I sign, Coach Tubbs?"

the hung out to dry comes from the original letter the coaches wrote and then submitted to the dmn to get published. they knew they couldn't deliver what they promised. all they did was help their buddy get the job by applying pressure on smu by publishing the letter and thereby making smu run the risk of looking like rascists if they didn't hire him.

Are you SURE you're not a well known Tubbs basher?

just calling them as i see them..........marginal record at best, ncaa sniffing around the hilltop, not much to get excited about in recruiting.......

look, if Tubbs had us at 17 - 11 and 3rd or 4th in conference, no ncaa houndogs sniffing around, and some better recruits from wherever looking positive, we would all be singing his praises with me in the front row.......................

You, sir, began bashing Tubbs early enough in the season that none of the items on your list could possibly have had an effect on your bashery. Tubbs basher.

man, did you take a double dose of the 'down on tubbs' pills this morning? wow, you'd think the guy is totally incapable and is in his 10th year of losing here. Dements second year wasnt worth a damn either. You thought this years schedule was weak, check out Dements early schedules I think they were worse. Plus I think Dement happened to have a few more veteran leaders to work with than Tubbs happens to have inherited. Its way too early to be down on the guy that much. This is smu, the roster he took over was in shambles and his recruiting, while not exciting yet, certainly appears to be better than Dements final two classes.

I have to agree with friarwolf here. Sorry, but how can you guys be all excited about him just because we happened to win a game today. We need to remember that today's win was essentially in the "play-in" game of the tournament. Now, trust me, I hope that we rattle off 3 more, but we need to keep things in perspective and let Tubbs win a few more in a row before we hop back on his bandwagon again. Tubbs has been a disappointment in the one thing he was hired for - recruiting. It's because of his DISD buddies, and he hasn't surprised us at any other aspect of coaching. He still can't speak well to alumni or the media, and he has had us investigated twice now. Is that really what we need? And is he?

Yes - he should get an extension; it was stupid to just give him 4 years

He's been investigated twice now? When was the first time?

I will get excited about Tubbs today, because this is the first time in quite a few years that we haven't lost the play-in game....that makes me happy.

Look, the honeymoon is definitely over (not sure he really had one because alot of people had closed minds to him from the start). These are hard times right now, but does that mean you get divorced at the first sign of trouble? No, not unless you are a spoiled brat or didn't want to marry the person to begin with. Tubbs is a good fit for SMU. Over time, Tubbs relationships in Dallas will pay off. It was never going to be an automatic pipeline, anybody who thought it would be is foolish. Give him the standard 5 seasons to see what he can do. SMU is a hard job to say the least. We gotta recognize that and support a coach through the inevitable tough times. I bet you would have fired Bennett after his second year or even his third year too.
