That it rains a lot in suburban Seattle? Thanks for the vote of confidence. When were you there?

We spent six weeks up there about 12-13 years ago (the winter before I started kindergarten) - my dad was sent to co-work with Boeing engineers on a project.

I really liked Seattle.

Stallion is right - we do have an awful lot of 6'1 190 lb QBs that run a 4.9 and can throw - that's average in Texas. That being said, if our coaching staff does not improve Slater's abilities, it's our staff that failed.

Look if Slater doesn't quit to become a rock star or a baseball player, and can avoid being moved to tight end, he'll be the most successful QB Bennett has coached here.

This statement is no comment whatsoever on Slater's ability because I have not seen him play. However, it is my opinion that Bennett wanted a QB who had taken a college snap on the roster (Phillips excluded supposedly due to rotator cuff injury). I think Bennett was uncomfortable in having a redshirt freshman starting. Speed in college, even Jr College is much faster than high school. However, I feel now that Bennett has apparently selected Willis to start and Slater may, barring injuries become irrelevant. Again this is no statement on his ability. I had stated in a previous post, and still would not be surprised if Slater started against Tech, and then Willis was worked in mid way thru the NTSU game, just to save Willis's confidence and body. It seems though that Willis showed enough stuff in the spring to warrant the start. We shall see. Less of a comment on Slater than SMU is the fact that out of all of the JC QBs in the country, Slater was the one we were able to persuade, or get enrolled at SMU. I think the process bore out that we had others on tap to sign but apparently could not get them into school, thus Mr. Slater was given the opportunity. As of now, the football prayers need to be directed to the well being and fast progress of Willis in a D-1 setting.

bottom line is that Bennett is giving him a chance to compete for a Division I job. I just hope we have someone on the roster who can generate some offense against CUSA competition
