During my freshman year they experimented with something called "open rush" for the entire fall semester and then pledging in January. Rumor has it, that my class had the lowest GPA of any freshman class in the history of SMU. After that, the words "fall rush" were not in the lexicon of the administrators of SMU. I think if you have a fall freshman rush, you'll be too focussed on rushing legacies and recommendations and miss some good candidates (including football players - I doubt Bennett will allow them to participate in Fall Rush).
