Doherty has a major selling job to do if his plan is to convince a couple of stud frosh to come in here and play for the "Duke of Dallas" for 1-2 yrs before turning pro. Otherwise, we could be looking at 2-3 painful years while this team grows up. I just hope he can hang on to the guys who are currently committed for next year. Looks like a respectable start with guys who could play early and be a pretty good group before they finish their 4 years
Let's face it, though - Doherty is going to have to get more from the returning starters this year than anyone else has in the past in order to generate some enthusiasm for this program. It will be tough to sell that "be like Duke" thing when the usual 1500 are sitting quietly in Moody

under this scenario of not taking any Jucos or Division 1A transfers SMU is looking at a 4-5 year rebuilding program and that's assuming we can get some top recruits more sought after than even Harp in the 2007 recruiting class-a point I've been making for some time now. No other school in this part of the country except for perrenial also-ran Rice would rebuild in this manner. So I guess I'll see you guys at Moody in about 2010 because I damn sure ain't going to put up with any more of this self-inflicted punishment.
I think the JUCO issue is one of admissions.
I have seen an interview or two with Doherty since he came to Dallas where he said he would accept d-1A transfers, kids transferring from Big 12, pac 10 schools etc. Perhaps Texas kids who got homesick, situation was not working out etc. When he assisted at Kansas, they took D1 transfers (Rex Walters, Jerod Haase etc) and Doherty took Ryan Humphrey as a transfer at Notre Dame (Ryan was his first recruit there I believe). Those kids generally stand a better shot of getting through admissions also.

Actually transfer hours to SMU are ridiculous regardless. Nothing is accepted.
