Didn't we try that a couple of years ago with Wallis lining up in the backfield, then splitting out as a flanker? As I recall he did have the ball thrown to him, and after getting blasted by a DB, was out for a few games with a shoulder injury?
I think that was Romo. He got clobbered. Could have happened to Wallis too, however. It seems to happen to a lot of our guys.

Is "quick kick" one of the five?

I don't remember it with Bartel/Wallis, but yes we did sometimes send Eckert and Romo out together, but we only ever ran one play. Romo would split out as a flanker and we'd throw a 1 yard screen to one of the receivers.

Lets be accurate. It is a pooch kick from a deceptive position. Quick kicks come on 3rd down or sooner. With our anemic offense, a quick kick could be effective if we had enough depth on defense not to wear out. Just keep kicking it to them on first down and hope for a turnover deep in their territory so we could kick a field goal.

By "deceptive position" do you mean quarterback?

That's thinking outside the box. If only we could play by Canadian rules and go for a rouge every possession.

No, he means Tight End. Thats what is so deceptive about it. QBs at Tight End. The opponent will never know what hit them.

How is Phillips doing at tight end? He would have been an experienced starting QB this year except for the fact that he can no longer throw due to that rotator cuff injury. We're just going to have to ride the horse that's brung us.

I think that would be decrepit*.

Forget the playbook just do what I did when I was an inexperienced QB. We just hudled up, drew the play on the guys stomach who was facing away from the other team. We beat the team from the other neighborhood 5 out of 6 times.

Phillips hasnt played a down, not even on special teams. I have the feeling we wont see anymore of Chris. He must have gotten in Phil's doghouse, deep.

He has been for some time I believe. Bennett apparently told Rich Phillips last season that he would pull Willis and Johnson's redshirt's before Chris Phillips ever saw the field for SMU again.
To take that tough of a stance on a talented kid you have to wonder what Phillips did to get so deep in the dog house. Obviously it was nothing bad enough to get kicked off the team but it must also be something more than just a poor attitude (which I have heard from some that say he has a great attitude in fact). Really not sure what to make of the situation.
Back to our actual QB, I would like to see them let Willis loose and see what the kid has got. He might in fact be exactly what we had all hoped Chris Phillips was going to be (they were both 3 star QBs who could run a little coming out of highschool). Or he might be a "Tight End" waiting to happen. Bottom line is we will never find out by limiting him to an array of dink and dunk passes.

I think Willis gets happy feet when he run plays with deep routes. If you noticed in the UNT game on the one drive that we did score a majority of the time we did plays where Willis did a 3 step drop and got rid of it which he seemed more comfortable with. Slater looks alot more comfortable in the pocket than Willis and it looks like Slater throws a better deep ball

Why is everyone bagging on Justin Willis. I saw the game in Denton and thought he actually looked pretty good. Anyone with a defensive lineman bearing down on them should have "happy feet". He seemed to make some plays by moving around, especially on the one and only touchdown pass. Enlighten me, please.....
