Was SMU favored in the Navy game that was such a disaster?

That was the single worst football game I have ever attended in my entire life. Our defense played is if Navy was running some new foreign offense that we had never seen before. I still have to wonder what went on in practice the week leading up to that game. Not sure if we were favored.

Oh yeah, we were favored. But it was a foriegn offense in that Navy had a new coach and new offense, though someone could have studied the coaches earlier games.

Actually after the UNT game I thought of the Navy debacle as an analogy.

I try to block that Navy game out of my memory but I do remember it being the coach's first game with Navy, coming off their winless season. However, that should not stand in the way of knowing how to defend the option. Either the coaching staff prepared the team poorly or the players did not execute. Based on our performances in the past versus Rice it might have been a combonation of the both.

Didn't see the UNT game so can't really compare it to the Navy debacle.

To be honest, that year we had no team speed on defense. That was the same year I believe that OSU had that receiver with 7 touchdown catches. And Navy went on to a winning season that year and a bowl win. They were clearly better than we thought. But back to the topic, I hate being favored because we underperform when favored. If we're favored, pick the other team because we rarely cover.

No. The last year SMU played Navy (2002, Bennett's first), Navy went 2-10 beating SMU and Army. And while OSU whipped SMU that year, the game you are thinking of was the next year (2003) when Rashaun Woods caught 7TDs passes against SMU at Ford. Also, in 2003, Navy went to a bowl.

From 2-10 to a bowl in one year, huh? Damn service academies get all the good players....

If we take care of OSU -- a tall order -- we'll prepare for the next game in Miami. You couldn't find anyone who thought UM was a win at the beginning of the year, so expectations for that game won't be any different now.

As a Miami fan, I'll tell you that all you have to do to beat us is zone blitz

Must be the "model" embraced by the athletic departments of the service academies

Yep unlimited scholarships and now both the Air Force and the Naval Academy have their own "Prep School" advantages no other schools have. If I get 80 recruits per year-I'll take my 80 sleepers and play teams like SMU and Rice who recruit mostly sleepers anyway and I'll compete. That model has nothing to do with Division 1A Football Reality.

stallion you are my role model... i wish i could be just like you... have you ever been positive about anything in ur life?! i would hate it if i had something negative to say about everything! get a grip man. we all know you're a super hereo when it comes to watching the highlights on espn, on what shoul've/could've been done better. We all know that if you were a D-1 coach you would have the best recruits and would never lose... death penalty? what death penalty? you would find away to make it through ONE of the worst penalties the NCAA has ever put in place. i honestly would give everything i have to let YOU oust PB, and take over THE SOUTHERN METHODIST UNIVERSITY and see what you could do with all of your knowledge... i know you were probably just one of the scout team all americans in high school but i would love to play for you!!! Damn cheer up, or i'm affraid we might have to put u on suicide watch. *kisses*

Thats pathetic that this board deletes threads that dont contain anything offensive or hateful.

What happened to the "SMU vs Ark St" thread. FINALLY we had some good smack talk going.

Apparently you said something brutally offensive in response to my post that beating SMU would not help ASU's bowl hopes nearly as much as losing to SMU would hurt them. Lighten up, Francis.

Eddie P, do I get credit for that one?

No I really didn't. But Mustangfan01 sure was off base.

Basically, I called out Arkie State for claiming they have All-Americans on their team.

Via their official roster they have a Jr. MLB who was a freshman all-american like 2 of our players...who was kicked off the team last year and let back on.

That and Mel Kiper's 3rd best junior safety in the nation...not an All-American mention or preseason mention.

An undersized D-Line hampered by injuries and 280 pound DTs. 2 small OLBs much like ours. Finally, a secondary that has some speed, not so much talent, but led by a talented safety (just like ours).

I just found it funny we have a pre-season All-American safety and they have a freshman all-american from 2 years ago. No preseason All-Americans on their team except their center... But, like I said..I got my info from their official roster. I didn't google them all.

It wasn't even smack talk, and I definately didn't call them inbreds or unintelligent like a few other posts have so elegantly stated.

I'm guessing that was the post that got deleted?

Psh.
