Heck...we were in your shoes in '98 so I know that any bowl game is important. I was part of the '97 team that went 1-10 and we would have been happy with any bowl game (or any wins for that matter). It has nothing to do with attendance because I think SMU would bring plenty of fans. I support Bennett and SMU, but you have to try to look at it from TCU's perspective. If we were 6-6 or 7-5 or 8-4 then I think we'd be completely fine playing SMU or Rice or some other 7-5 team. It's simply a tough pill to swallow that if we go 10-2, we'll have to play a bowl game in our home stadium against a non-BCS 7-5 team (whether it's SMU or someone else). It's all about perception and as we try to move up the rankings and continue to build our recent success, I don't know how this helps us long-term. (Not to mention, under the scenario above, I'm not sure how many TCU fans - 15K? - will show up for a game on December 23, particularly if it's cold.)

In all honesty, no it does not matter. I believe our team and fans would much rather play (and hopefully beat) another BCS teeam. Again, my gripe is not with SMU as an opponent...I feel the same way about Rice, Tulsa, Northern Illinois, etc.

Then I guess you do not have enough fan support for a bowl game and should just stay home. I have never, in all of my life (and I am an SMU grad) heard such pompous cr@p in my life. Be happy you got by a few of those tuffies in the MWC to get where you are. One thing is true. It is all about perception and yours is way out of line. We may not be on a par with TCU yet when all is said and done, but my goodness, you sound like you think you are BCS Bowl worthy. Not only is that not true, but you live in Ft. Worth. I do pity you and those that hear your voice throughout the day.

Any bowl would be a blessing to me. That said, I can understand the Frog's disappointment with a possible Ft Worth bowl match up between TCU and SMU. The Frogs moved from CUSA to MWC to improve their chances at a BSC berth. Imagine, moving to the vaulted MWC and being the #3 team in that conference and having to play the 4th or 5th place team of the lowly CUSA! The insult of it all!

Not from our perspective!

Also, I don't want you guys (and gals) thiking that I am confident we would beat SMU or Rice or Tulsa. In fact, I think a bowl game at our place sets us up for a big-time letdown and a potential loss if we are not "up" for the game. And I have serious concerns that, despite the best efforts of the coaching staff, our players might not be as fired up and ready to play as our opponent would be.

i hope tcu keeps making decisions based on their 'we don't want to be associatied w SMU' mentality. it's already caused them to make one really f'ed up decision (the move to mwc) which will hopefully assure that they continue to slip into football insignificance. face it frogs, unless you are undefeated or a conference champ, you are really unappealing as a bowl team. the same could certainly be said of SMU, so i'll say it for you, but at least we aren't suffering from delusional thinking like many (not all) of your fandom.

FWIW, i'd be thrilled to play in the FW bowl and am indifferent whether against tcu or not. but i remember what happened the last time SMU went to a bowl that we thought was underneath us: we got our a**es handed to us in the sun bowl. you better alert your polywogs of same, whether it's SMU or rice or tulsa as the opponent.

I'll put it to you this way. While I envy what you all have done in the last 7-8 years, what I find ridiculous is that you all have this inflated sense of who you are and where you fit in the college football system.

You guys think you are this close to being a BCS program. Here's a little information. You're not.

And you're in a conference that has ZERO shot of getting an automatic BCS bid. That bid is always going to stay with the Big East because the east coast bias and the CFB power brokers are going to make it stay that way. You can brag about your wins over the Big 12. The system will not let you in.

You guys are chasing something that you'll never catch. You'll get the occasional team. Boise State maybe this year, but things are going to have to break right for them just like it did for Utah.

Because of this move, you guys are going to watch other sports start to suffer. Men's hoops is cratering. Girls hoops is losing players they normally get -- see the FW Dunbar guard who chose US over YOU and signed with us.

Baseball will probably be OK. And nobody cares about the non-revenue sports.

So enjoy your 10-2 season and trip to wherever you go. But blind arrogance can be a destructive trait.

Do you not understand why would might be disappointed with a home bowl game if we finish 10-2? If not, I'm sorry I can't explain it.

I never said the MWC or our schedule were tough.

Where did I mention anything at all about BCS worthiness? I don't think we'd have much better than a 50/50 chance against SMU in a bowl game. We aren't that good this year if you want my honest opinion.
