I was told by a very reliable source that we got a DL transfer in from the Naval Academy Prep School. His high school coach told me just last week that the kid signed. I forgot his name but he was the the Hebron '05 state champ team. I've seen a lot of film on this kid and I think he is going to be able to help the Mustangs out quite a bit. Started both ways, all state, and was the district defensive mvp as a DL. This could be a good pickup.

Ryan Leonard is the kid. Leonard is listed in Rivals as an offensive center and is not rated. Here are his stats:

Ht: 6-foot-0
Wt: 268 lbs
Forty: 5 secs
Bench max: 325 pounds
Squat max: 500 pounds
Shuttle: 4.63 secs
GPA: 2.75
Class: 2006 (High School)

He is one of two recruits I was told we have commits from that have not been mentioned on the board. The other is a 5'11", 170 lb., 4.4 forty DB who will remain unnamed unless identified on this board.

SMU measured him at 6'1". Splitting hairs probably but from what I've seen and what I've heard I am very glad he decided to come home.

Leonard is a defensive tackle recruit. I've heard 6-0 or 6-1, and in the 290-300 range.

If SMU measured at 6-1-then you can be confident he is about 6-0. Remember Desmond Jones who SMU had at 6-1-he has now shrunk to 5-11 on the Tarelton State Roster. think I did a report on Leonard last year. I remember he was All-State or something and we may have offered right before signing date.

Oh stop it. DeMyron Martin is listed at 6-2, 215. Are they shrinking him on purpose? Are there inaccuracies at times? Sure. But to make it sound like SMU (or any other school/program/team) just adds inches and pounds to everyone is absurd, at best.

It happens . . . you can bet on that!

Sure, at times. But let's not sit here and suggest that it happens all the time, as was the original insinuation. If that was the case, Adrian Dizer would be hailed as a 6'9" 290-pounder by now.

Since Leonard has apparently played last fall at The Naval Academy Prep School, which plays a JV/JC schedule, is he enrolled now and wil be able to participate in the spring or will he get here in the fall ? I assume he will not have to sit out a year ?
