Is this really SMU's fault?

why would you need a truck specifically for toes? Are yours that big? Are there a lot of people with your condition?

Unfortunately, I am afraid this story is going to have legs to it. I am sure our friends at Belo are digging to find kids and parents who will be oh so willing to say SMU pays lip service to addiction issues and tacitly gives approval to the kids to indulge in illicit behavior............

Whose to say that she picked up this habit at SMU? Afterall she started at Arkansas and you can't tell me that they don't have drugs up there! That said, I do think that the University and the University Park Police need to be more pro-active in stomping out drugs on campus. You can never totally eliminate it, but more could be done to nail these drug pushers who come to campus. Off campus, its up to the police AND the judicial system to catch the clowns that deal drugs. When they are caught, the juries and judges need to make sure that the dealers spend a LONG time behind bars or they are NOT doing their job!

As long as there is a demand for illicit and illegal drugs, someone will step in to supply them. The corrections system is already full with people doing time for drug offenses - it and appears that drugs are not that much harder to get.

Sure are a lot of apologist for SMU on this thread. I thought it was perfectly legitimate to indict an entire university and student body because of the actions of a few-or does that just apply to UT? Consistent, logical?

He's upset and wants to blame someone. Three deaths in one year gives him an easy target. The RA's do need to be more aware of drug use by the people living in their floors. Its usually common knowledge if someone is using stuff. If the RA notices that someone is skipping class regularly, acting wierd, etc., he/she should counsel the student to get help, if the behavior continues he/she should bring that to the attention of the Dean of Student Life. At worst the school can at least check the box of saying that the student was told to seek counselling and that her class attendance would be monitored and if she continued to miss classes that she would be suspended until she had completed a drug or alcohol rehabilitation session.

I don't know if the RA's are doing a good job or not - I hope they are. In these 3 cases, you had a senior girl living off campus, a sophomore in a frat house, and a freshman/soph who was known to be a fairly serious, studious kind of kid. So, the RA's wouldn't come into play at all on 2 of these 3 incidents and probably not on the 3rd kid as well.

My roommate freshman year was a drug dealer. Actually, he got fired from Macaroni Grill and told me he needed money and that he had decided to start selling drugs. Yeah, he was a winner. I think everyone that knew him considered him to be a giant [deleted].
Anyways, after a couple months of his wheelings and dealings around campus, a couple large African-American guys came to our room to make a purchase while I was there. I decided I wasn't down with that and told my RA that he was selling from our room. Pretty soon the SMU police did a "random search" of our room and immediately he got kicked out of RLSH. I think he eventually got kicked out of SMU and last I heard, he was working at Blockbuster on Greenville.
The point is, drugs are VERY accessible on campus - not only to buy, but apparently any random giant [deleted] can sell out of his dorm room.

This should make this story slightly more interesting. Allegations of SAE hazing by drugging drinks, a frat brother/drug dealer, and harsh claims by the father of Jacob Stiles, the student who died in December.

I read that today. No offense, but that's [deleted]. That guy is just realizing now one of his own brothers most likely supplied him the drugs? Again, can't blame it on SMU, but the individual. This is college. The kids have to learn to make adult decisions and realize the school won't babysit them like they did in high school.

Yeah, you got a point.

Still, I have a suspicion these two parents may be publicly bashing SMU now after some coaching from Bush library opponents. Anybody know their political affiliation?
