Perunapower- I responded about a week or 2 ago that 4-5 of these kids were at least REPORTEDLY offered by some nice schools. I understand and have explained how offers on the table can disappear since I've stated the same thing about several SMU recruits-and get bitched at. But there is evidence that at least 3-4 maybe 5 of NTSU's recruits had decent offers and strong interest from a lot of schools. Just being evenhanded and fair.

But you do have to question the source when he states a kid was offered by Notre Dame and West Virginia and Rivals says he had "interest" from Youngstown State and Akron. Dodge is still in the Honeymoon time. It will take a season or two to see if the marriage is for real or just one of convenience such as we have seen for the past few years. I am more worried about us than NTSU. We need to make some positive moves on some respectable recruits and get some forward momentum, or get a divorce.

You are right, look at PB for an example.mrydel wrote:Dodge is still in the Honeymoon time. It will take a season or two to see if the marriage is for real or just one of convenience such as we have seen for the past few years.

Agreed again, sir.

Phil has put a lot of pressure on himself and this team by losing to a commuter school in Denton last year. If he loses to them again this year AT HOME, then I suspect this will be his last year on the Hilltop.
The good news is the game should get some pretty good local pub and attendance with Dodge being the coach.

If we lose to UNT the new search would be on immediately.

Not only that, the head coach will have the term interim in front of his title.
There are certain losses that just get a coach fired. Hayden Fry lost to Virginia Tech at Blacksburg in 1972. After that game he was on double super secret probation. After a three game losing streak to Texas Tech, UT and A&M and despite a 6-4 record including wins over Florida and Arkansas, he was fired before the TCU game and allowed to coach that game which the Mustangs won. I think a loss this year to UNT or to Arkansas State would have the same effect for Bennett (unless of course we opened the season with a victory over TT and followed the loss to UNT with a victory over TCU). If we were 1-3 pre conference, only a western division crown would save Bennett's job.

You're right. SMU won't...because Sept. 9th won't even be mid-season. The few SMU fans who remain faithful to the football program will be calling for PB's head on a platter if he loses to UNT two years in a row...and at home this time.Stallion wrote:SMU is not going to fire a coach in mid-season PERIOD

Prediction: If PB loses to UNT on Sept. 8, the Mustangs will have a newly named HC by Sept. 9.
it seems more SMU-like to see headlines talking about, "interim head coach Larry Edmonson" or something to that effect. Then there will be talk about the search committee, and which players & former players are on it, then it will drag out, then we'll get in a panic about recruiting being affected, then Dodge says thanks but no thanks, and so does everyone else, and then we hear about the three finalists Ramon Flanigan, Rusty Burns and Darrell Dickey.
Then again, maybe all that would be different under Orsini. Maybe we beat UNT & a few others. Maybe there's a better hiring process.

Now that's the funniest post I've ever seen on ponyfans. The only thing missing from that hypothetical is PB and team in all black uniforms. I'm pretty sure Ramon is available for hire right now.

I was warned to stop the hatred to you 65 but since I have met you in person it is hard to get over the fact you have a SHSU and NTSU [deleted]

I'm sorry I have to believe that if we lose to NTSU again, Bennett is gone immediately. They haven't won in Dallas in over 70 years, and they have never won B2B games against us. If Bennett allows them to accomplish both of these, then it's not much of a stretch to say he isn't the individual to lead us to the next level and cannot lead SMU to victory.
