Swannie & Phillips kept mentioning it on the post-game show last night as a 'new record for an SMU opponent'.
According to the 2007 SMU Football Media Guide, the most rushing yards (net) is held by the 1969 Texas Longhorns (611 yds). The most passing yards is held by the 1989 Houston Cougars (771 yds).
Individually, NTSU's Daniel Meager set a new passing record by an SMU opposing quarterback for most yards with 601, breaking the old record set by UofH's Andre Ware with 517 in 1989.
I never thought of Dodge as a High School coach. I just thought of him as a coach. And I've been around quite a few.
The guy understands the QB position better than anyone I have ever seen. I've read stories about his offseason programs with all of his QBs, the tests he gave them from down and distance to reads and to having them throw nearly 400-500 balls a day into short, medium and long-range targets and that he had lunch with his QBs a couple days a week to talk the game.
Frankly, I think he's wasting his time in Denton. I thought he should have gone to his alma mater to be the QB coach and then eventually take over for Mack Brown. That could still happen.
For those that are underselling Meager, you don't know what you are talking about. Dodge coached that kid to be able to deliver performances like Saturday. And that kid put in the work to get there.
If their defense is worth anything this year, I don't see how they won't be in every game this year.
No, I hope UNT and Arkansas State battle it out for the Sun Belt Conference championship and that both have winning records. That way, it will make any wins we have look that much better.
