Call it micro-managing, call it lack of experience call .. what you will.
Phill Bennett has brought the best talent to SMU since the DP.
Thank you PB for working your best. Do we need to get some Faculty Senate support? - Yes we do. Do we need some different degree programs? - Yes we do.
Are we making cunning game day choices.. no we are not.
Please stay classy and take the 1.2 million dollar we owe you and have a good life with your new wife and become a NFL d-coach. I think this has been a learning or growth period for you and for SMU.
Best to you.
George.
Nice guys finish LAST - Leo Durocher.

Good points George,
The only thing I would disagree with is that you said "Best Talent" since DP. Do you include the years we still had a top 10 Defense and additional players to add to the mix? Let's throw in the '97 Team vs. any of the current SMU teams, and you get a ass-whoopin in favor of the older guys.

The talent is there in certain spots, but as Emmitt Smith so eloquently says, "there are diamonds and then there's some poo poo"

Stallion, you further prove my point about our D. How bout the days when we had Jacoby Rhienhart, Donald Mitchell, Tracy Hart, Raymon Brown, Jason Simonton, Luke Johnson, Chase Schavarda, Blake Perkins, Dan Merritt, ect. Now it seems as if I hear the color guy talk more about how a walk on earned a scholorship than how how many sacks a guy has.

I respectfully disagree. I think last year's secondary was weak, but the front 7 was as strong as I can remember, and as close to a BCS-caliber D-Line as SMU's had in years. Justin Rogers, Brandon Bonds, Adrian Haywood, Corey Muse is the best defensive line we'll have at SMU for a long time
I realize most of those players played in 2005, but they were at their best last year, with 3 of those 4 players on the DL being seniors

TexStang-you maybe new. I was talking about the last 3 years. I've maintained there have been at least 4-5 teams better than last years team which is easily the most overrated group ever. I think the teams in Rossley's last team through Cavan's second team would wipe the floor we these guys. We simply don't play Top 70 teams anymore-which we did in the WAC with the great BYU, Wyoming, Utah, Air Force, Fresno, Hawaii not to mention TCU teams and other good teams. I laugh cause so many of you don't know how close the CUSAWest is to the SunBelt.
Yes, I'm what most consider new to the message boards, but I've been a long time reader, with a little more inside than most of you will ever know. You seem to make sense at times and your appreciation of the Rossley/Cavan recruit/players shows even further you REAL knowledge of who things used to be and how SMU has not only dropped the ball with new talent, but they've stuck the ball up their A**.

I stand corrected....
2 of the 11 teams I referenced above were the 1997 Wyoming team we defeated that ended the season 7-6 and the 1996 New Mexico team that ended the season 6-5. However, upon further review, I have noticed that BOTH these teams won games against non 1-A teams to get their winning records.
So to restate...
In the 19 years post DP, SMU has only defeated 9 teams with winning records. That is LESS than 1 team every 2 years...
