Phil will be gone. It should happen NOW and appoint an interim coach and announce that we are searching for a new one. We CANNOT possibly recruit under the present condition with everyone knowing Plil will not be here next year. At least thats the concensus at the Bus Stop!

so i've got to ask you man, and this is a serious question not a flame, have you EVER been happy with the way SMU has run its athletic (or more specifically, football) program?

and FWIW, i would never suggest keeping the guy around if you've fired him for the very reason you cite.

I've never been a fan how SMU runs its athletic program. From the shutting down of a nationally respected track program, to the disparate color/ logo scheme of the "SMU brand", [deleted] I can go ever...I'm just going to stop...SMU wishes it could run its athletic program as well Highland Park High School, or St Mark's does. SMU=bush league...period.

Just to throw this out. Az. St. fired Dirk Kotter at the end of the season, but before the Hawaii Bowl last year. Az. St. is now 4 or 5-0 having beat Stanford last night badly and an earlier victory over Colo. I guess the lesson is if SMU is willing to put the $ up for a big time coach, he can take the players already here. do well, and build the program gowing forward. No need to fire Bennet now but some kind of statement about looking for a top coach wouldn't hurt. Start putting out feelers and pay the big bucks. There is no way to fix this on the cheap.

I submit that a bowl should not be the yard stick for success. 6-6 against our schedule is not good enough in my opinion. Should we not set higher expectations? Should we not commit to being a top program that can play and win BIG games? Will batman survive?

Tune in next week...Same bat time...same bat channel

Thank goodness posters are not in charge. I am almost tempted to ask for adult supervision for this message board.

I can understand disappointment and being anxious to fix our many problems, but some of these suggestions (demands) are naive, if not childish.

Remember, our team is still suiting up and playing for us. Get ready to beat the Golden Eagles.

This is not sunshine, it is what alums of a school do. Let's wait until the season is over. We have a team on the field and we are in the middle of the season, friends.

I agree-if you goin' to [deleted] have a point, back it up with facts and draw your conclusions. Don't need 3/4th of the crap on this board today.

3/4 pretty conservative estimate...

the year is over. we are 1-4, and we'll perhaps win 1 or 2 more games.

GET RID OF BENNETT NOW AND SALVAGE RECRUITING. otherwise we suck next year as well because firing someone in december will KILL recruiting.

Who is going to recruit such that we can salvage recruiting? Neither the interim coach nor the remaining staff will recruit ... for SMU. They may recruit for themselves in hopes of convincing someone to come over when they get to their next job.

Do you actually think you can hire somebody now? Even to start the moment the season is over? That notion is so stupid it doesn't even merit discussion.

BTW, Butch Davis was hired with 2 weeks left in the season. Other than Terry Bowden or an impossibly awful retread I am not thinking of, I can't imagine any coach out there that is unemployed and capable of even interviewing by then. Oh, and even UNC waited until Bunting as guaranteed a losing record before firing him.

THE MOST IMPORTANT THING WILL BE TO HIRE THE RIGHT GUY, not the guy available right now.

Besides, if we fired Bennett who would coach the team for the rest of the season? Gush, Burns, Phil's brother?

I will coach for the remainder of the season
