The paricipation Charts which are sometimes wrong say that Zac Thomas and Patrick Fleming have also burned their redshirt. I thought I saw Fleming against UTEP but I didn't know about Thomas. Its just another year of misuse of freshman-only this time there are many more. Something like 7-8 and none of them are really contributing much. If you play them once as a freshman they should be an integral part of the gameplan.
Let's make a List-Check me if I'm wrong
1. Bailey
2. Bell
3. Yenga
4. Robinson
5. Fleming ?
6. Thomas ?
None of these guys are getting more than a handful of plays here and there. If you didn't want to fire him-this might change your mind.
Oh I forgot:
7. Leonard
8. Smart
Both these guys are playing-it demonstrates poor recruiting in other classes because I don't think they are really there yet-but at least they are playing and getting good experience so they aren't considered wasted redshirts-plus they are a year older.

Everyone wants junior college players to fill our gaps. Even though we don't add many jc players, we could help our future depth (which I KNOW that Bennett doesn't care about any more) by redshirting more players. It doesn't add more experience, but that one year adds a heck of a lot more maturity. I know PB has talked about doing this more in years past, but its been hard for him to do especially since he has had a hard time keeping his "top" recruits around for much more than one season.

Here is a list of his 3 star recruits dating back to 2002 and you tell me how many you recognize:
2002 Anthony Barnett
2003 Justin Boren
Avery Cleveland
Zack Hall
Desmond Jones
Richual Massey
Ervin McGee
Ricky Joe Meeks
Cory Muse
Chris Phillips
Joe Sturdivant
2004 Vincent Chase
2005 Clayton Cox
Columbus Givens
Adrian Haywood
Victor McKindle
Curtiss Powell
Justin Willis
2006 Phillip Burley
Bryan McCann
2007 De'Von Bailey
Derrius Bell
Bradley Haynes
Josh LiRibeus
The 2003 class was one of the key classes and he only got 3 ((4) if you count Phillips first year as QB) starters out of the 10 top players he recruited. The rest contributed little, if anything, and left the program without much fanfare. Also the 2005 class had 3 starters out of 6. Curtiss Powell and Clayton Cox never even showed up as I recall. Not sure about Victor McKindle.
IMO, we need higher percentages contributing to the program from our top recruits given our overall lack of talent!

you know you say that but I see at least 4 offensive or defensive players on the year out of that group plus another kid who All-CUSA in his freshman year. Ten of them started at some point in their career. During those 6 years more than 135 players have probably come through here. I agree its disappointing that we didn't get more out of some-Desmond Jones in particular I believe would have been very good but there is more than average quality in star power. Need to sign as many as possible. Some of those guys left for academic issues. Some for injuries. Some have only started their careers.
