I don't think he's a good fit for SMU based solely on his recruiting methods. (I'm also assuming that Stallion and his model theory are more correct than not in that analysis.) However, I think his hiring would be a huge splash for SMU on the national stage. I will be absolutely shocked if SMU can bring him in, though. I'm afraid if Paul Johnson and Neuheisel both slow played Orsini, June Jones is probably doing the same thing to land more money from Hawaii. If Hawaii comes close to winning the Sugar Bowl, you watch, they will do everything they can (although that may not be much more than they are doing already) to keep him.
What methods make you say "I don't think he is a good fit for SMU." Wow. Crazy talk.
I hear the turnip truck is about to swing around any minute now...you better get ready to jump back on.
Did you ever consider that June Jones recruits kids with academic problems, kids who have had a criminal history, kids from Samoa and other pacific islanders who are more than 3000 miles away, and JUCOs. Sounds like a perfect fit for SMU, huh PonyDogg???
If it is Jones he will have immediate success recruiting @ Trinity High School, the Texas 5A champs.
They have alot of polynesians on their team.
I saw on the local news where they actually have some type of war chant/dance ritual they perform @ every game.
Also, I have no problem with the dance team wearing hula skirts.
[quote="locostang"]I like June Jones, but do you think he would mesh well with SO and Turner and the rest of the SMU Community? Coach Jones can take care of that by Winning and bring back the old supporters and the new alike.....Then we can have an SMU Community at the games again !...Everyone will like Coach Jones if he comes here because the guy is just a WINNER !!!
All of a sudden, Trinity becomes a feeder school for SMU with June Jones. Tongan Trinity players are awesome and there is a load in their pipeline. Jones relationship could make a big difference in recruiting. I can see the dance come to the Hilltop!
Maybe it's just me, but exactly why is June Jones going to be able to successfully recruit Polynesian Kids in Dallas, TX? Maybe it's just me, but... of course he could recruit Polynesian kids in Hawaii... that's a significant portion of the population... send me to coach a Japanese professional baseball team - I'll probably "recruit" some Japanese talent...????
It's not as if his name is June Manu-aeleuo... Why would local Polynesian kids at Trinity HS care about June Jones???

I have no interest in JJ. To me, he's just like Coker. Not a fit here.
Either Barnett, Bowden or Fran would be the best hire IMO.
Papa - I agree. I am pretty disappointed that Barnett was never a candidate. He performed wonders at CU against superior Big 12 talent. At least Fran knows the area. I don't understand whatsoever what the big buzz around June Jones is.
You don't understand the buzz around a guy who took one of the nation's worst programs and led them to a BCS bowl appearance? What has Fran ever done to match that?

Seriously... the guy hasn't been able to take a recruiting trip to the mainland in 5 years. Hawaii's budget is a joke. He should be coach of the year this year -- I don't care if they lost 100-3 in the Sugar Bowl.

Exactly, ESQ.
If a guy can take UH from nothing, without recruiting $$$, to national prominence in 5 seasons, what could he do here!
I'd take a few Samoans, Tongans, and any other Natives that he can find. Those guys can hit. And I'd love to see some of the SMU profs attempting to pronounce their names. Get your camera phones out, there should be some classic YOUTube moments on the Hilltop the first day of class.
