No thanks.
I wrote "if". It was just an arbitrary statement. I am intrigued, but he's not among the first five choices. I don't have a preference to this point.

Turner Gill would be a great choice for SMU. He grew up in Ft. Worth so he knows the area and probably some of the tradition of SMU football. He has done wonders at a school with no facilities, no recruiting base and no budget so imagine what he could do at a school with the facilities and budget and recruiting base that SMU has. I would see him as a win all the way around.

Uhh...and he COACHED AT SMU as an assistant. Yeah, he probably knows some of the tradition of SMU football. Turner is a great guy, but let's see what he does at Buffalo. he's been there a year and a half, and in that time is 6-14. not really "done wonders". taking a team that wins 0 games to winning 2 then winning 4 isn't really a feat we should hold out for when looking for a new coach.
and i'm not discounting turner. i have met him and he is a great guy and i think will have a long coaching career, but we're not in the same position as Buffalo. We have made a great investment in facilities and don't you think there should be more return on that investment than another untested head coach?
he's a $200,000/yr coach. we're in the market for a $1.2MM/yr coach.
