Beware of Coaches using the SMU job for publicity-but come on he's the best football coach on our mythical list.

Are you suggesting we hire Mike Gundy?

Well, at least he's a man.

Are you trying to avoid a Pedro Martinez/Don Zimmer episode at SMU?

Don't worry, that will look much younger to you in a few years.

yep, one reason why Turner Gill is best fit. Do you guys really think Barnett is using us to float his name? Arent there better ways to do that than to suggest you would settle for SMU? If anything, i would think that would signal some bigger schools the other way, but maybe thats just me.
I did not realize he was 61 already. I don't know why but that bothers me a little....
.............Don't worry about Barnett's age. He could still Coach a long time and help rebuild our program. Barnett is a great Coach and a good judge of talent. Still Terry Bowden is a better choice because he would command so much media attention and is a proven Recruiter/Coach.Terry Bowden without question could rebuild our program.

Barnett,Bowden, and the like-it would be nice for this "classy" university to hire a coach who doesn't have baggage in their pasts-at all. There are some out there.

Barnett is lobbying, obviously. who cares... are we in such a strong position that we can be picky??
--applewhite is not coming here. he is on the fast-track in BCS-conferences. why would he derail his career and disappear at SMU? let's be serious.
--barnett is interested because no school has called him in two years.
--bowden would come though, as he has nothing else going on...
We're going to get a retread, or someone who has been out-of-work for less-than-stellar reasons. It was OK to get Mike Doherty that way.....
I saw a Barnett-lead, undermanned CU team kick the [deleted] out of UT at Texas Stadium in 2001 (loved it!!!!)... Chris Brown ran for ~250 yards, Barnett outcouched Mack (the master recruiter) Brown, and only when they (ironically) brought in Major AppleBananas and benched Chris Simms did UT even make a game of it. My vote for coach - Gary Barnett. plus, if we are going to leverage girls to increase recruiting success, imagine what he could do at SMU vs. the 'talent' he had to work with at CU, with the granola-chicks who don't shower regularly....
let's just get the best retread we can!
go ponies!

You lose all credibility when you say our basketball coach's name is Mike Doherty. M-A-T-T.

I am sure someone on this board can answer this - What are the recruiting standards at Northwestern? I know it is a great school, but do they have relaxed admission standards for athletics? If not, and they are somewhat similar to SMU, I think that would make Barnett a great choice. Not only is he a proven coach, but he also did it a school with high academic standards.
For those of you that are worried about his problems at CU, you need to look no further than Mike Price at UTEP.
