Hi, kids! What did we learn today? We learned that Phil Bennett likes to confuse you and may not be 100% forthright and honest all the time.
Like I said, this is the guy that suggested he couldn't have gotten Rice's Dillard into school, and Dillard later said he had been invited to walk on.
We can file these things away under the "Phil Bennett's things he has forgetten about football that are more than we will ever know" department.
Maybe Bennett is telling the truth and maybe he isn't. regardless, he has credibility issues.

Just want to throw out the possibility that Alridge is embarrassed by all this media talk about him being a dumb@ss in high school, and therefore wants to put the blame on Bennett for not recruiting him, when in fact he was indeed a complete dumb@[deleted] in high school, and Bennett wanted to recruit him because he was fast, but could not. Just throwing that possibility out there.

seems the most plausible.

WHAT IS THE SIGNIFICANCE OF A KID WHO HAS TAKEN OFFICIAL VISITS BUT WHO TAKES THE SAT TWO WEEKS BEFORE SIGNING DATE?
there are multiple clues within the facts given
I didn't think they could take visits until they had been cleared by the NCAA clearing house.

RECRUITING QUESTION NO. 3
CAN ANYONE TELL ME THE VERY POSSIBLE REASON THAT A RECRUIT MIGHT BE LEANING TO THREE BIG 12 SCHOOLS TWO WEEKS BEFORE SIGNING DATE BUT END UP SIGNING WITH UH IN CUSA THREE WEEKS LATER- AND EXPRESSING CONFUSION ABOUT THE RECRUITMENT OF THOSE BIG 12 SCHOOLS DURING THE INTERIM? (His quote was "I don't know what I am going to do" "I thought it would be over by now")In fact, I can't even see that he was considering UH until the post announcing his commitment)
HINT: TCU built their program using this technique.

CONCLUSIONS:
1. Aldidge had already taken his SAT by January 20 since he was allowed to take an OFFICIAL visit. NCAA Rules require that a recruit take the SAT or ACT before going on a visit
2. Aldridge did not project to be a full-qualifier therefore he decided to take the test for at least a 2nd time mere weeks before signing date
3. The Big 12 Does not take non-qualifiers (except for something like 2 per year and 1 in any particular sport) and each and every year backs off from players often late the recruiting season because they don't project to being a full-qualifier. These are the Corderra Hunters and Stephen Hodge types that annually decommit from schools like Tech and Baylor to go to TCU.

I was thinking more in terms of SMU recruiting restrictions, but now I wait anxiously for the correct answer. Sounds like the kid didn't have a very good grasp of the recruiting process and his recruiting obligations, like getting his SATs out of the way in the Fall or earlier.Stallion wrote:qualifier/non-qualifier status is not determined until August. It would be incorrect to say he could not be recruited-getting closer.
