I think you will find that Orsini has a tougher job than any of you think. I tried to warn you of the lack of interest in this job and got smack for it. Personally, if Barnett is interested, I'd sign the guy up immediately before he changes his mind.
............Another well thought out post....Oh, what can we do ?...no good coach wants to cash SMU's $ 1,000,000.00 plus dollar annual checks....Get Real.....You know, some of you guys can continue to try real hard to drive away every possible good coaching candidate. That way you can help keep poor SMU down or maybe you might want to realize that some people here have resently commited substantial financial amounts of money to try to get this program turned around for YOU....So instead of being negative all the time why don't YOU at least try to show some positive interest. Otherwise just say I don't give a $--- and ---- you for trying to help.

Is anyone still pushing for Turner Gill? Even with Bowden on the table I prefer Gill. Being out of coaching for a decade and having left last time taking a great program to 1-5 and leaving mid-season shouldn't be the resume we are considering.
From what I have read Gill:
Can recruit
Was a great player
Has a good record as an assistant and an impressive first year as a HC
Is from DFW
Has a short history with SMU
Doesn't have any serious HC offers elsewhere for next year (besides Buffalo)
Maybe I missed the Turner Gill thread...but I feel like this guy is an ideal fit.

We all kind of have the feeling that he'll be at Nebraska next year.

Well that would do it/make sense. Gill's got a bright future.
That being said, I have to say the Franchione choice would be the biggest impact hire we could make.
He can recruit Texas, he has won in Texas, and even with this current scandal, he doesn't have the past of Barnett or Bowden.

The football HC job has been a death penalty for prior coaches. It is going to take one hell of a lot of dollars (read $1.5M)to get a good coach to stay with the program plus another $2 to $4 M to hire good assistent coaches and coordinators. I think the only possible coach with a past that has a chance for the job would be George O'Leary. His transgression was minor compared to those of the many of the other coaches that have been mentioned for the job. I don't think President Turner or the Trustees will approve any of the other name coachs because they want no smell conected with the athletic program. Thought ! if Terry B wanted to coach college ball so bad why hasn't he been choosen for openings that have occured over the last 9 years? Why didn't Steve O hire him at UCF if he was so good ?

Bowden only in the last year made it known that he desired to return to coaching.

Why didn't you post this in my Gill thread? I am looking for opinions on him!!
