17 pts for Alex Malone! Just keep improving youngsters
“When I first committed to SMU, I thought it would take a couple of years of building. But with these players coming in, we should make a run. We have a lot of heavy hitters. It could get real ugly for a lot of teams we play.”- Jalen Jones

3:00 to go and down 6 pts. This is when we could REALLY use a home court advantage. Back in the days when we would have 7-8,000 in Moody, the place would be loud and I would feel good about our chances of pulling it out. Our visitors feel too confident down the stretch under scrimmage conditions.

regardless, Southern hit all their 3's and played much better in the 2nd half. Our FT shooting was awful.

From what I saw, we should have beaten them, especially at home. Freshman mistakes apparent, although I did see some nice movement on offense. Defense was not good at all.

Whole different team guys...Get excited...Ball movement, energy, speed, athleticism, high/low game, but just a lot of down the stretch fixable issues...Free throws were terrible and Southern made their's...Southern had all upper classmen and we obviously do not...

We may actually have a team worth watching this year...May not have to wait until next...Not world beaters but a lot better than last year...

Watching the offense we ran tonight, it told me we didn't have the horses to run an offense last year...

Tough loss but all coachable...Still angry we gave up that lead...

Walker looked good...Already has a college body...Passed with both hands...Made good decisions...Handled the ball very well...Never got in trouble...Played good minutes...Shooting was off, but all freshman other than Malone were off shooting...He will be a good one...Saw nothing out of sorts with his game...

Malone looked great...Harp needs some work with his jumper..Looked nervous...

The one thing I said all night was that our guys always looked in position and on the same page...VERY ATHLETIC GROUP...Vastly different from last year...It helps to have two coach's sons on the floor...

Foot and ball speed were twice as fast as last year...We whipped the ball around the perimeter with ease...Had good high/low looks that didn't materialize as much as they will later in the year...I think Spencer was our best passer from the high position...Didn't get a ton on playing time...

Still angry about the loss but really excited about what we have...

I was most impressed with Malone. That guy is silky smooth. He will be a player. Dia is going to be a rebounding force. He will be fouled a lot as he was tonight. Got to work on those free throws. I thought Walker ran the floor quite well when he was in the game. This team has potential to be very good at some point.
