are those people crazy?

is he a real possibility for SMU?

Tommy Bowden (born July 10, 1954 in Birmingham, Alabama) is the head football coach at Clemson University. He is the son of Bobby Bowden, head coach at Florida State University. Bowden has never had a losing season at Clemson.

He is a two-time ACC Coach of the Year. In the 2003 season, he became the first coach in NCAA history, to defeat two coaches with 200 or more wins in a one-month span, in Bobby Bowden, and Lou Holtz. In November 2003 he beat his father's #3 ranked Florida State Seminoles, 26-10, at Death Valley, in a game nicknamed the Bowden Bowl.

Bowden previously was the head coach at Tulane, and an assistant at the University of Alabama, Auburn University, Duke University, the University of Kentucky, East Carolina University, and with his father at Florida State. His 1998 Tulane squad went 12-0 and achieved a top-10 final ranking in both polls.

Bowden's Clemson teams have been to a bowl game every year he has been coaching there, except in 2004, when a brawl with rival South Carolina kept both teams from going to a bowl.

Tommy is married to the former Linda White and has two children, Ryan and Lauren.

anyone else concerned that more job openings are being announced daily and contrary to what smu blogger thought, actually there will be a higher # of vacancies than anticipated??

i think if we don't already have our man, we may be in some serious trouble with the competition. It all starts at the top and has a trickle-down effect on SMU.

Lloyd Carr retires, in comes Les Miles. Suddenly LSU has an unexpected opening. Nutt is out, in comes Butch Davis, and now UNC has an unexpected opening. I could go on and on, but won't bore you. Either way, these are some of the jobs openings that we will be competing with..

Michigan
Nebraska
Arkansas
Baylor
LSu (possibly)
UNC (possibly)

that is a scary list, and the season isn't even over yet!!!

You've got the right idea. The advantage SMU had by firing Bennett early is gone. I don't think you can hang it all on Orsini though. As I have said, my research proved that there was very little interest in this job. On the other hand Orsini may have made the hire without a leak. I suppose anything is possible

What research? An unscientific polling of your drinking buddies is not research.

i believe orsini knows what he is doing and all of us just need to relax. let everything play out and let's go from there. we can save all of our second-guessing for 2008.

re: dont forget george oleary

did anyone else notice how "distant" O'Leary seemed?
i guess every coach has his own style, whatever works
but gosh O'Leary was so removed from his players/coaches
he was almost always standing far away by himself
