but im going to have to blame Willis, for talking PB into going for it on 4th and 2...
i know he wants to win but lets extend the game...The D was playing pretty good down the strectch...
but blame shouldnt go to anyone now...seasons done with
In the post-game interview with PB, he indicated that the defensive line was too banged up to continue playing. For him it was all or nothing. (I agreed with the call at the time and still do. I didn't agree with the play that was called, however, but that's the way it goes.)
Willis played a great game all the way up to the end. My only criticism would be the last 4 downs when he tried to do it all by himself. If I'm Memphis, I'm guessing with 90% chance of being right that Willis is going to call his own number, which of course he did. Butler was running well and should have been in there for that last series. I would have given him the ball to see what he could have done especially on that last play. I salute Justin, however, on a great game and hope that he progresses next year well enough to give us a better chance to have a winning season!
Can't blame Bennett for either the time out or going for it on 4 and 2. He was following his players' lead and put it in their hands on fourth down. He did the right thing.

C-USA referees suck by the way.
My biggest disappointment with C-USA has been the quality of the referees. I haven't seen any improvement over the WAC referees. I could have sworn that the refs in this game were doing a little extra to give Memphis a chance. Poynter must have had 3 holding calls at a minimum against him. Did Memphis have ANY holding calls go against them all day?

Obviously I'm biased, but when a player pushes another after the play is over and the other is running his mouth, they should both receive offsetting penalties (didn't happen today, the SMU player running his mouth got the penalty, but nothing for the one who shoved the SMU player), or when a player is trying to block a field goal and he runs into the kicker's leg it should be "running into the kicker", not "roughing the kicker". Those are the penalties that stick out in my mind that really hurt us. The first gave Memphis an automatic first down on which they scored a TD (would have been a 4th down and I would assume that West would have gone for the field goal). The second gave Memphis an automatic first in the 2nd OT which again led to a TD.

And called the wrong play. Don't shower him with too much praise. He's a loser. Period. Exclamation point.
the guy he was blocking is a load- Freddie Barnett-a top national recruit who I believe started at Arkansas and bounced around to JUCO and then to Memphis. Unbelievable 88 yard TD runback against Ark.St. Looked like pretty obvious holding to me on the plays I saw.

Ah yes, it was Justin Willis that designed the defense that gave up so many points. Entirely his fault. No question.
i passed blame to a few different people, including Willis...but the D got stops the last drive of regulation and they played great in OT for being on the field a lot

My sentiments exactly! BTW the sports announcer on Channel 8 just called PB a "class" act. Guess he hasn't been reading the Ponyfans message board!
