.................Why are you so worried about recruiting this year right now ?? It is not going to get any better unless we get a great coach that can recruit. Sure there has been screw ups with this long term wait, but at this point, we have to get this coaching hire right..... I mean you need to remember that Rivals rated our recruiting class in 2006 #107 and last year we finished with Rivals rating of #99. Our team just finished 1-11. Getting all 2 star guys and a couple of 3 Star guys will not cut it........... Orsini knows this and even if we get all 2 star guys this year, it is OK because with a good coach, the future in coaching and recruiting will get better. Right now all we can do is get the right coach and hopefully he can recruit a few good players this year late.

Agree. More important to get a coach who can bring in strong recruits in the future.

actually my guess was very low-89% of the Texas Top 100 have already committed. Now I realize that there are other good players but this demonstrates that you can't sit on your [deleted] and wait till January to get a Coach.

And how many did we have from the top 100?

I don't think it really matters.

its better to make sure and hire the right coach instead of getting in a rush for recruiting.

True enough, but there is always some shuffling in January and last minute change of hearts.

Plus, don't forget only 6 of the 16 teams who are looking for coaches have filled their jobs so far. (Granted, our recruiting situation is much worse than anyone elses at this point.) But, we will still be ok if we have someone hired in the next couple of days and get at least some recruiting done this week.

(The 1-11 season probably had a much more detrimental effect on our recruiting than waiting two more days would--if we lose this whole week though, it will get much worse.)

good points, but the other 16 teams didn't fire their coach midseason under the presumption that it would allow us to fill the position quicker. this thing is really coming back to bite us in the [deleted]. or, at a minimum, to not have been beneficial in the least.

Oh, I agree completely. Just urging a little more calm. If Steve-O shows up with a really great coach in the next two days though, I think everyone will feel much better. (Although, if it ends up being Barnett or Slick Rick or someone we could have hired five weeks ago when they said they wanted it, I think Turner and the trustees will have some explaining to do!)

No no no! Orsini has it all under control - remember? He has all sorts of coaches beating down SMU's door! But he has told them all no because all this time he has Urban Meyer socked away in his attic. He is just waiting for the Cowboys to lose a game before he lets him out so that SMU will have lots of publicity! Yay! Yay! Hooray!

what makes us think that more time translates into a better coaching hire? More research or what? Seems like wishful thinking to me. Yes some guys might be slow playing us to see what other jobs they could get, but that just means they might not have what it takes for this tough job anyway. We need a smart hire and a good fit for this exact situation. That doesn't mean there is just one good fit, but there probably is a handful of realistic candidates who have the characteristics we need/want. From that handful, make a pre-emptive strike. Waiting is not gonna help you unless you don't know what you want or you are shooting too high to begin with.

Haven't you got it yet? There are still some delusional people on this board but now there are just less of them. You will always have those gullible dreamers who weally weally believe in Orsini to deliver them from darkness. He's the mob boss. Yay! Yay! Orsini got bubkiss! He is wearing his [deleted] as a hat now. He apparently cannot give this job away.

But all you dreamers just keep thinking that it doesn't matter. Hiring a coach two weeks before the spring game is just fine and dandy because the mob boss is on top of it

Who is claiming that more time will get us a better coach? Everyone is getting worked up BECAUSE it is taking so long, and that means we don't have a great coach locked up. I am certain that Steve-O does have a handful of coaches and will pick one--and soon. But it will take as long as it takes to get the job done.

all i'm dreaming about is having a hc, period. i'm past the "we need a wow hire" phase. now i think we just need someone to come fill a glaring vacancy. if having a qualified candidate is unrealistic and delusional, then we have bigger problems than i thought.

You can put me down for:

1) It will take some time

2) It will all make sense and be worth it
