SMU making an offer to Jeff Bower
Moderators: PonyPride, SmooPower
My initial reaction was: if it's Bower why would we have waited this long.
But, he is supposed to coach in So. Mississippi's bowl game (Papa Johns Bowl).
Since So. Miss. has now hired a new coach, maybe it's okay to make an announcement.
I wonder who will coach the So. Miss. bowl game now?

Also DMN mentioned Bower's interest in yesterday's paper.
So, maybe it's possible.

Bower will coach the Golden Eagles in the Papajohns.com Bowl on Dec. 22 in Birmingham.

There is nothing safe about hiring Bower given his ties to SMU. Since when is a D-1 coach who took his team to bowl games in 10 of the last 11 seasons a safety hire?
We are God awful......I'll never understand the level of expectations around here. We would be lucky to have him.

I would think with our search so far and the level of steve-o's previous hires, he is holding out for someone else. That being said, yes, we are awful and he is a great coach.

Say what you want, but I think this would be a great hire for the program.
USM is a completely different animal than SMU. 180 degrees. I also wonder about whether he might be stuck in his ways/complacent about recruiting over the last 16 years at USM. I feel we need someone with a little more fire in the belly who can be instrumental in making whatever changes to the "model" are necessary. We also need someone who will excite the fan base and recruits. This guy just doesn't seem like he has the "it" factor we need. I wouldn't be angry with him, I just think there are others that are better. A la Bowden, Barnett, Neuheisal, Mason, Franchione, etc.
