We are on Plan C since Nutt (Plan A) and PJ (Plan B) have already been taken

HS coach--nope. Dodge signed last year.

College assistant--hopefully not, but possible
College HC--Hopefully

Pro assistant--doubtful
Pro HC-- get real. Of the River is doing very well in Jacksonville. I can't see him leaving that job for SMU. What about Bum Phillips?

I agree that we are waiting on whomever is left over after the big boys get their pick. We will then state that he is the guy we wanted all along.

I guess we won't know till it happens. I disagree about getting the scraps. SMU has more cash on the table right now than ASU gave to Erickson. Orsini is out on a limb. He walked out there. He continues to assure us he is out there. LOOK AT ME, I AM OUT ON A LIMB. I think he has someone that is a big fish. SMU has ties to 2 NFL teams. Looks like Jones had something to do with the Ark. hire. Orsini has a lot of connections including those NFL owners. He has lots of $. He has a lot on the line. I don't think he is going to take scraps. If that were the case he would have already hired someone. Whoever he has his eye on is big.

Okay, I'll spill the beans, its Michael Vick, he's going to be transferred to the Dallas County Jail and be released on work release to coach the team. He's going to coach for free to show what a nice guy he really is. And since he's already incarcerated, he can't break any NCAA rules because that would trigger a longer sentence. Its as plausible as any other crazy scenario, I've seen here. And it would get headlines.

UCLA and Michigan are the big 2 left without coaches. They will have their choice over SMU. If SMU is looking at someone (eg Chow) that they want then SMU goes to Plan D. That's all I'm saying. There is a certain pecking order involved here.

I have long admired Chow. He has probably turned down more HC jobs than any man in America. Maybe at 61 he is finally ready to take on that role. If so UCLA will surely hire him.

my guess as to what Orsini is up to is basically what he has stated publicly, i.e., he's out to get the best guy available for SMU.

That probably means thowing this job out there to a bunch of guys we would be shocked to see come here and obviously a lot of them will say no right away...but anyone who shows interest probably climbs the ladder of candidates.

Orsini said he's eliminated nobody. Aim high and see where that takes you...within the obvious limitations SMU has (financial, ability to compete at the highest level, uneven playing field with regard to recruiting, etc...)

I like the aim high approach and I'm in no hurry if it takes waiting until certain teams are eliminated from this NFL season (if that is where this search is going). There aren't any "difference makers" out there to be had in recruiting at this point...but the right guy could lead to some future transfers

since when do we get transfers at SMU? We notoriously get very, very few. I heard something about credit hours not being accepted by smu, no matter from Northwestern or Cal Tech. Cal Tech is probably outrecruiting us right now.

I think you're right. If the hire is enough of a WOW it will offset any negative effect from the delay in hiring the HC. I think there is some method to this madness by SO.

After reading alot of posts on this board, I think this might be the most accurate. Just a guess. I do love to see how pissed some people get on this board that they should get more updates from the AD.

SMU Football Blog wrote:I suggest everyone get over the Turner is the reason for all the ills of SMU Football. This is on Orsini and not Turner. It doesn't matter, anyway. You aren't getting rid of Turner.

I personally don't want to get rid of Turner. Not a chance...the guy is a good university President, and the most prodigious fundraiser in recent memory (though he did have a head start b/c of Hunt, Dedman, Huffington, Ford, & Clements).

What I do want is an acknowledgment that a professional guy like Turner will not continue to act bold-a$$ stupid by telling the world that he is limiting the search by expressing comment out in public about things that he would not put in a "want-ad". And I mean bold-a$$ stupid...not a shred of smart in sentiment or expression. "Moron" doesn't even cover it, as the guy is smart enough to know better several times over.

I know I won't get any acknowledgment...therefore, I will settle with him not doing it again.

And unfortunately, I can't tell whether that is the case or not.

My guess, Steve-O is doing one of these three things. Take your pick.
