Doherty will be fine but he has never been a great game day coach. That has been his problem everywhere.

Go get a graduate degree and root for someone else then. Coach Doh is a great coach, give him some time.

I submit that the 1989 SWC loss to TCU at Daniel Meyer goes down as the worst loss in SMU history, at least that I am aware....
80-40 on Raycom Regional TV network. Coach Shumate was so mad that the spittle was reaching us on the back row.
In that year we also had the worst win in SMU history. SMU 36, UTA 31 during final exam week. Good times.
I will say this -- I wish we could have had this schedule in my early years. It would have built up confidence going into the SWC schedule.

Unfortunately, for you Greg you played for one miserable human being. I'm sure you don't see it that way. And that's fine.
But in my interactions with John, I was never so disappointed by the way he conducted himself and how he treated people. And he wasn't very good.
I still think that 1992-93 NCAA tournament team with you, Tim Mason and Gerald Lewis won the conference in spite of him not because of him.

yes that SMU/UTA was one of the greatest displays of ineptitude I've ever seen. Ever since I've had a complete aversion to go to games after mid-term tests-like last Nite. Its true they are always horrible games. And that is why USC-Upstate was scheduled for that date.

Stallion, he only has about three months on the Tubbs timeline. Again, I think Doherty is a good coach, but this team reeks of a poorly coached team......too many turnovers, they looked lost on offense, poor FT shooting and the biggest concern, which you can’t blame on being young, no effort or desire out of our guys.
Scoring four points in the last eight and a half minutes against USC-Upstate and having losses to these five schools, should put any coach’s job in jeopardy.

Patton,
I will keep my Shumate thoughts to myself, but yes....that magical 1993 SWC championship season was won despite his rantings. He did learn after 4 years that 4 hour practices probably weren't the best idea the day before a game. I still sometimes look at the championship ring and say "..and how did I get this?".
The only bitterness to that year was that Forrest Gregg rewarded Shumate with another 5 year deal.....I saw that coming...and it made me crazy.
Live and learn.
Oh to be an SMU fan.

This was a very discouraging loss alright! Some bright spots were Mike Walker played like a veteran so much of the game...is improving everygame and I think will one day make us proud. Bamba Falls played an ok game. Alex Malone and Ryan Harp hit their shots. I was disappointed the ball movement was not there and coach worked on that all game. Papa Dia didn't have a good game. Roberts and Killen had subpar games. Spencer has shown very little improvement to me. Ritter tried hard as he always does. The Thursday night game will show us whether or not we can come back and play some ball. But I'll be there win or lose...Go Mustangs!!!

Walker has got to learn to dribble with his head up. When he dribble/drives, his head is down so that he can only see half the court. He missed quite a few open teammates because he just can't see them..........

He can't coach. We should have never brought him here. I will say again. A coach who could not keep a job at his own school where he won a national title. He doesn't know talent, can't teach an offense, and lives off his reputation, which will be totally ruined before he leaves here.

worst loss ever? No, I don't think so. We are rich with tradition in "worst losses ever"
I seen to remember losing to Rollins College, an NAIA school from Florida back in Jon Koncak's FR year. That was fun.

You embarrass yourself w/Doh posts. To say he doesn't know talent is laughable. Ask the folks at UNC about his ability to judge talent, and what he did after being hired late in the game, post Gut, for his first recruiting class.

Wow, it's amazing how you continue to make your reputation grow.
