Nice little mention during the BSC championship game about Jones' hire. Time will tell but for the moment, it was well worth the wait.

I can say this about the hire: last night at my bowling league I overheard several conversations about the hiring of Coach Jones - no matter where I have lived since graduation I have never heard people talking about SMU football unless I brought it up first...

Ding! no way to tell just at this moment, the proof will be in the wins and losses column down the road.
It's better to hire a good coach late, than a bad coach early. However, it's impossible to compare this result to what the result might have been if we had hired a good coach months ago. Jones has to hit the recruiting trail with little time left. It will take a few years of recruiting and players learning the new system to truly tell how good a hire this was.
By the way Greg, this is Jon Embree. Send me a PM on here if you want to check out a basketball game, I'll get you tickets.
Prof. X didn't realize that this was you with a new screen name! I thought you had disappeared after mustangmaniacs went down the tube! BTW I agree wholeheartedly with your post. This hire is tsta (too soon to assess), but I am glad we got a coach with experience winning games.
Yeah, Hi guys, this is me. I thought everyone knew that, but I guess not. I've actually had several names on this site, and I'm thinking of switching back to one of the old ones. If you see posts from "The CPC", that's me.
A necessary but painful wait

Given the necessity of respectfully waiting for a coach to complete a major bowl game, SMU had to wait silently to hire JJ. It was painful, but we did not put JJ through the wringer that Michigan did to LSU. Maybe if Michigan could have been patient they would have gotten their first choice. In retrospect, SMU may have approached Navy only because the fans wanted a coach sooner than later, when in fact the best choice was to wait until the bowl games were over. It will take some time to recover fomr the strain of the hiring process and the misery of the past 20 years, but I feel good at last - and hiring JJ made that happen.

From what I heard Krag was SO first choice. PJ was
second attempt. JJ was on the orginal list but thought to be longshot, but mid december became a real possibility. All the others names backups.
