The sneer about Highland Park? He has issues. The fact that a Circle of Champions was and is needed is our reality, but that of BCS schools and the NCAA decision to give SMU the DP.

His alternative? Resign ourselves to our fate and give penance forever?

What a clown!

Just did.

Hey, Skip, why trash SMU and its location and past? What is our alternative? Perpetual mediocrity?

Emailed him this:

Skip,

First off, let me say that while I don't agree with your opinions on sports very often, I do respect you for putting your opinions on record. The reason I am writing is because I caught the 1st and 10 segment discussing SMU's hire of June Jones, and to be quite honest with you, I was disturbed that you would infer that my school's renewed commitment to a winning football program (as shown by the rich contract we signed June Jones to) would lead to cheating (I think the line you used is that you feared the monster is being recreated). We're trying to win the right way- we're paying our coaches, not our players, and if we can't win in Conference USA by bringing in the best coaches in America, there's something wrong with the system.

We're not going to resort to cheating again, Skip. I cannot believe that you or ANYONE would infer that a willingness to pay top dollar for a great football coach is going to lead us back toward the shady practices which landed us the death penalty.
